Killswitch Engaged

Posted on February 12, 2008

Adam D from Killswitch Engage has spent the past couple of weeks holed up in deepest farmest Derbyshire, with nothing but sheep & Sneap for company. We are talking of course about the mixing of new album ‘The End Of Heartache’ at Andy Sneap’s studio in Ripley. We took Metal Hammer up there only yesterday for a forthcoming magazine feature, and while we were there, Adam D took the time out to record you a little special Valentines video message, which you can download right now on the VIDEO page. Not only that, we took a couple of photos of Adam with his new friends, and have posted them in the KsE PHOTO GALLERY. A ‘sensible’ studio interview and more studio photos will be posted next week…. for now, go download your message and have a great weekend.

Chimaira/ETID in Sheffield

Posted on February 12, 2008

The Date: 11th Feb The Venue: The Corporation The Band: The one and only CHIMAIRA!!!!! Finally, after a decade long drought of decent bands playing Sheffield, Chimaira brought some true metal to the home of the worlds finest steel – kinda apt dontcha think? Went to the signing at record collector to complete my album covers (Missed Jim and Andols at Rock City last year) now have a full set of scribes on P.O.O.E. and T.I.O.R woo hoo!!! cheers guys!!! Then even better luck, went to the Devonshire Cat pub just up from the Corp (as we regulars refer to the venue) to see Rob, Matt, Jim and Chris sampling some British pub grub before getting on with the job of laying Sheffield to waste!!! So several pints of beer and a couple shots of Jager worse for wear I headed to the club in anticipation………. As it turned out, I missed most of E.T.I.D’s set but from what i did see & hear they look like a band to keep an eye on. Very shortly after Stampin’ Ground came on and played a blinding set of metal/hardcore – hopefully they’ll have converted some doubters. So with a front row place secured – and i wasn’t about to give it up for anyone – it was time for the band most people were there for: the AWESOME CHIMAIRA. As soon as the first notes of Implements Of Destruction blasted out, bodies surged to the front and roars came forth from every mouth in the venue, until we heard the one two of Power Trip and Cleanstaion what a pair of tracks to open with! After that the set went in the same order that other reviewers have posted (no complaints from me here! and i’m guessing everyone in the club felt the same) although Mark did get a top comedy response to his question “What did Moses do?” someone shouted back “SMOKED WEED!!!!” cue laughs from Mark and the band before jumping into my personal favourite track, The Dehumanizing Process. The rest of the gig was faultless and my voice was well and truly shagged by the end of the show – you have to hand it to Mark being able to do this night after night. As i write this my front still aches from being forced into the crowd barrier for an hour and a half, but i wouldn’t have it any other way so cheers a bunch Chimaira for a top night out!!! P.S. reading this weeks Kerrang the band said that a lot of kids who went to instores weren’t going to the gigs – all i can say is they missed out bigtime!!! P.P.S. Spoke to Matt at the bar in the club after the gig and he told me that the band “won’t be pussying out on our next record” – good news as far as i’m concerned. So thanks Roadrunner and Chimaira for making this tour happen – hope to see Killswitch come to Sheffield when they promote their new album. Jason Houlihan

Chimaira/ETID In Glasgow #2

Posted on February 12, 2008

Literally, straight off the email – an email from Chris Robb about the Chimaira/ETID tour – and the show in Glasgow! After seeing them at rage tour i knew i had to come back and see a full set!! we travelled 4 hours just so we could make it to the signing session!! they didnt dissapoint and i even got a map of glasgow singed by the band!! then after food and calming down from meeting the band off we head to king tuts. we werent aloud in because we dont have idea to prove we 18 (we werent anyway) so we had to wait 35 mins before we got in the place. this is with 2 hrs before the doors opened!! so doors open and get the merchandise as you do. so get into the tiny arena!! it is so small. then we hear some great news from some people that when spunge played the floor had collapsed (not sure if this true or not) and this gets better no moshing without t-shirts on and there would be NO WALL OF DEATH!!! everytime i die hit the stage to shouts of pantera!! they played a good set with lots of action from the pits. the crowd seemed to enjoy this. i had never heard them before so it was new experience and they impressed me. stamping ground another band i had never heard of even though they been around for 12 yrs!! i was highly impressed with this band and judging by the pits everyone liked them. i loved how when they announced a song the crowd split ready for the wall of death then all hell broke loose!! was amazing!! bodies everywhere then the reason for most people going!! chimaira!! they walked on and started with implements of destruction and then mark hunter crept on stage and they eventually went into one of my favourite songs Power Trip!! the crowd went crazy and so did the band. so the set continued i cant remember much of it just i remember shouting at the top of my lungs the lyrics or moshing like a twat! then hunter announced the old stuff!! still amazing this lead onto severed where they took a break and announced the new member of the family ricky evensand. he played a 5 minute drum solo and left he crowd speechless. that was truly fucking amzaing. you felt every hit of the drums!! ricky is a true artist!! well on goes the set and hunter asks everyone what his nickname is and why he has it?? so role on The Dehumanizing Process and the crowd didnt even need asking. hunter then asked the crowd which side was louder and had everybody screaming at the top of their lungs!! needless to say the wall of death was very good!! so on goes the gig and as chimaira announce they members matt and rob do a guitar solo (well duet) and was truely inspiring!! then of course the song of the night and best chimaira song PURE HATRED!! everyone went crazy screaming along to the words and going crazy, this was a night to remember and was truly amazing. chris robb

3 Inches Of Blood

Posted on February 12, 2008

Roadrunner’s latest signing, ladies and gentlemen, is 3 Inches Of Blood. What do you know about them? Read on: í¢ä‰åñ3 Inches of Blood are rat poison to any kind of trend or fashion. They are born metal warriors unafraid to embrace the mighty riff and the Rob Halford-Udo-Dirkschneider scream of vengeance. Yes, the singer’s real name is Cam Pipes! And yes, this is a mighty band unafraid to swing the blood-axe of pure metal with songs that conjure images last seen on the covers of Conan paperback novels. Heavy metal, the way it NEEDS to be played.í¢ä‰åŒ í¢ä‰åñMadí¢ä‰åŒ Mike Gitter (Roadrunner Records A&R) is raving about his latest signing, Vancouver’s 3 Inches of Blood. Some of you may have seen them as they metallized the nation this fall with Himsa and the Black Dahlia Murder. Some of us UK-based types may have even seen the steely sextet with none other than The Darkness. That’s The Darkness…when no one would have guessed how massive they would become. Same deal with 3 Inches…a metallized fist to the gut. According to Mike: í¢ä‰åñThey’re the kind of band who you listen to once and you’re like ‘what the fuck is this?’ A few listens in, you are a convert to the cause. And truth be told, these six Canucks are damn serious about their heavy metal art. This is no joke, no wink-wink-nudge-nudge, no bunch of collegiate elitists thinking mullets and Iron Maiden logos are cute, trite and funny. This is the real deal. Three Inches are the sort of great band that just doesn’t give a fuck. They worship at the altar of Iron Maiden, Running Wild and Accept — and do so with sheer conviction.í¢ä‰åŒ It was that conviction that won over the Roadrunner A&R team. The first tremors of í¢ä‰åñThe Bloodí¢ä‰åŒ were felt in their native Great White North by none other than Roadrunner’s Canadian A&R man, Jamie Milligan. A listen to their independently-released Battlecry Under a Winter Sun LP and a more recent demo piqued Roadrunner’s interest. Live is where 3 Inches ultimately í¢ä‰åñbrought it.í¢ä‰åŒ í¢ä‰åñFew bands can come out with an audience having no idea of who they are and a few songs in get a crowd pumping fists, banging heads and throwing the horns,í¢ä‰åŒ states Mike. í¢ä‰åñThat’s what happened the first time Monte Conner (RR A&R), Jamie Milligan and myself walked into a club to witness the spectacle of Three Inches of Blood a few months back. We were picking our jaws off the floor!í¢ä‰åŒ Forget the Judas Priest reunion. 3 Inches of Blood has arrived and the metal torch is ablaze once more. That being said, we’d like to welcome 3 Inches of Blood into the Roadrunner family, and invite you to check out a song from the ‘demo’ Mike mentioned about above. Check out the band’s MUSIC section for an MP3 download of “Deadly Sinners.” Do enjoy…

The Spicuzza Sessions #3

Posted on February 12, 2008

Over half way through the Chimaira UK dates, and Spicuzza’s tour diary keeps on coming… here is the third installment. Feb 8th: Manchester Manchester was the best gig of the Road Rage tour. Once again the crowd was just as chaotic. There was no barrier or security. Kids were pouring onto the stage throughout the show. Basically a grand ol time. After the show we stuffed our fat faces with McDonalds and called it a day. Feb 9th: Nottingham I’m sick today and don’t feel like talking. Keep your eyes on Scuzz TV. They followed us around with cameras today. Ta Ta. Feb 10th: Glasgow I love this city. Friendly people and I can’t understand a god damn word they say. For the most part it was a typical day (see old postings). Good ol’ Luke from RR took me to get drugs. Not drugs to get me blitzed drugs to get rid of this fucking cold. The show was in this small venue that held 250 uncomfortably. That didn’t stop the crowd from wrecking the joint. After the show I walked down to Three and One (kebab joint). Chips/kebab meat/cheese/curry sauce… good eats. Cheers Glasgow.
