SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman COREY TAYLOR was interviewed by Artisan News Service at the premiere of the documentary God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, directed by Osbourne’s son Jack and he spoke about his love of and respect for Ozzy. Said Taylor, “I think the thing that makes Ozzy so legendary is the fact that even after all this time, he still does it for the pure pleasure of doing it. Yeah, he makes a lot of money doing it, he’s in amazing bands, he’s gotten to play with so many amazing people, but he still goes out and performs and does it to the best of his ability because he loves to do it. It’s one of those things that, as a fan and also as a frontman, you hope that you hold on to years later. The guy just loves entertaining the fans, loves having a good time on stage and he just lives for it.”

Most Opeth fans familiar with their non-metal influences will understand and truly appreciate how groundbreaking this record is. After all, it is still distinctly Opeth and another fine specimen alongside their existing body of sublime work, making it a strong contender for Album Of The Year shortlists. There may be some fans that will struggle to cope without the brutality Opeth usually offer, but whichever way you feel: you have to hand it to a band that continue to evolve and push boundaries like no other.

…Opeth’s yearn for change is a largely successful one. Compositions like ‘The Devil’s Orchard’, ‘I Feel The Dark’, ‘Nepenthe’ and ‘Famine’ are still vintage Opeth, even without the familiar death metal outbursts. The songs are still complex, multi-layered and are still filled with nifty progressive twists and turns. The typical haunting and melancholic atmosphere that made “Blackwater Park” and “Ghost Reveries” so memorable are still present on “Heritage”. ‘H

New York prog rockers COHEED AND CAMBRIA have written a song for the upcoming Batman game, ‘Batman: Arkham City’. See below for what the band’s frontman, Claudio Sanchez, had to say about the project:
“I write in a very conceptual format with the stories that surround Coheed and Cambria but Batman has a much larger, defined history and rules that go along with it. My goal was to find universal themes from Batman’s existing history to help give the lyrics legs and dimension so that the song could live within that world.”
