Last night (Aug 29th) the MTV Video Music Awards took place. Tyler from Theory Of A Deadman was in NYC last night, as “Hero” was up for best video from a film. Tyler, along with Josey (Saliva) – both of who were in the “Hero” video with Chad Kroeger – attended the show…along with Elias (Roadrunner Records). Random Fact: Elias’ seat for the show was 604E. What the hell does that mean? Well, technically Theory Of A Deadman is signed to 604 Records (Chad’s imprint on Roadrunner…604 happens to be an area code in Canada). As for the ‘E,’ well that’s Elias’ nickname – ‘E’ (very original, yes). A sign? Maybe so – if you believe in that sort of shit. BUT, “Hero” did indeed win the award for best video from a film – that film being Spider-Man…but, of course. Congratulations to all involved in the making of the “Hero” video…

HOT OFF THE US PRESS RELEASE: “Hot on the heels of a spate of early adds at Active (tied with Puddle of Mudd) and Mainstream Rock on KRXQ/Sacramento, KQRC/Kansas City, KILO/Colorado Springs, WXTB/Tampa, KXXR/Minneapolis, and WEBN/Cincinnatti to name a few, Vancouver’s Theory of a Deadman have been slated to hit the road with Nickelback for a leg of U.S. summer festival dates from September 5 through the 29th. The tour only serves to raise the profile of Theory of a Deadman, whose self-titled debut is set to hit the streets on September 17th. This album marks the first release from Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and Jonathan Simkin’s 604 Records imprint, distributed through Roadrunner Records. The group–TYLER CONNOLLY (vocals/guitar), DAVE BRENNER (guitars), DEAN BACK (bass) and TIM HART (drums)–recorded the album at Vancouver’s Greenhouse Studios with Kroeger and Joey Moi (Nickelback, Default) co-producing. In other news, CONNOLLY also appeared on the single and in the video for the Chad Kroeger hit song “Hero” from the Spider-Man (Music From and Inspired By) CD, released April 30 in connection with the blockbuster film. “Hero” was recently nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for “Best Video From A Film.” As all this activity swirls around the band, their first single “Nothing Could Come Between Us” continues to build at radio. It’s currently the #5 Greatest Gainer on the R&R Active Rock chart and the #4 Greatest Gainer on R&R’s Rock chart. In a recent Billboard review of the song, Chuck Taylor noted: “Think of “Nothing Could Come Between Us” as a well-tuned blend of the best elements of Tantric, Days Of The New, Creed, Stone Temple Pilots, and Nickelback, with an undercurrent of bluesí¢äå_It could easily become an anthem for those who want to ditch their insignificant others pronto.” Current tour dates are as follows: Thurs 9/5 Blackfoot, ID Eastern Idaho State Fair Fri 9/6 Salt Lake City, UT Utah State Fair Thurs 9/12 Kearney, NE Buffalo County Fairgrounds Fri 9/13 Hutchinson, KS Kansas State Fair Sat 9/14 Sioux Falls, SD WH Lyons Fairgrounds Fri 9/20 Louisville, KY Broadbent Arena Kentucky Fair and Expo Center Tues 9/24 Birmingham, AL Oak Mountain Amphitheatre Fri 9/27 Huntsville, AL Big Spring Jam Sun 9/29 San Antonio, TX Sunken Gardens Theater.”

What can be said, officially part of the Roadrunner family. In fact, as the ink still dries on the desk of Joan (Director Of Licensing), Theory Of A Deadman is indeed officially the newest band on the label. Gentlemen, welcome aboard. Thirst for knowledge? Just as fresh as the ink on the papers on Joan’s desk, the band’s bio has been posted – in the BIO section (but, of course). Onward and Upward. Currently, we are readying plans to shoot a video for their single “Nothing Could Come Between Us.” In fact, video treatments are currently being eyed. Early word is that the video will feature scantily clad women & cars (the basis for every truly great video made)…”might have a truck in it, too. It should be cool,” adds Marketing Matt. Video shoot is expected to take place in a couple weeks. Ahhh, and one last bit of Theory news for you – live shows. The band is currently in the midst of playing a string of shows up in Canada, eh. On a side note, Theory will also be playing at this year’s annual music industry convention, the Conclave. On July 26th, they will be playing the Quest in Minneapolis. Did You Know? Def fuckin’ Leppard will also be playing this event. True, indeed. The album has been tentatively set for release on September 16th
Chad Kroeger and music mogul Jonathan Simkin have joined forces to create a production company licensed under Roadrunner Records, 604 Records. The Canadian duo aims to seek out and develop undiscovered talent in the music world not only in North America, but globally. As Nickelback’s attorney, Simkin has been working with Kroeger for almost 7 years. Simkin states, í¢äåñChad and I are doing something we are passionate about and enjoy. Not only do we get to directly participate in the production of new talent, but we also get to explore both the creative and business forces behind it. It is extremely rewarding.í¢äå The first signing to this company is Theory of a Deadman, a band that garnered attention by Kroeger and Simkin with its unparalleled capacity for songwriting. In a scene that is preoccupied with creating a specific sound, Theory’s frontman Tyler Connelly has a unique gift for sculpting poetic lyricism and relaying stories in his songs- situations which he may not have necessarily experienced firsthand, but convincingly writes about. The founders were also moved by the band’s live presence – it’s seemingly rare these days that a band can generate an album where every song is appealing and for that band to effectively execute such songs on stage. First stop, Theory Of A Deadman this summer. Did You Know? The ‘604’ in ‘604 Records’ comes from an area code up there in Canada. True.
Mark it on the calendar – Fear Factory’s first and last offering, Concrete, is OUT NOW. Journey back to when this SoCal metal act was just beginning…hell, back when drummer Raymond Herrera was still in high school. Recorded in 1991, just about 1 year after the band formed, this 16 song recording secured Fear Factory a deal with Roadrunner, and was the start of a very bright future for a then unknown Ross Robinson. 16 tracks in total: 8 of which were re-recorded for 1992’s Soul Of A New Machine debut, 4 of which have never been heard, and 4 which later morphed into other songs. Tells guitarist Dino Cazares, “Honestly, I think Concrete sounded better than Soul Of A New Machine. Ross is really good at capturing the moment.” Be sure to read the new Fear Factory ‘Concrete’ biography. Did you know it was also the very first record ever produced by Ross Robinson? Available on CD for around í£12.99 from: HMV – í£2 off with Download 2002 discount card + free ‘Download 2002’ sampler CD, Virgin/VShop – í£2 off with voucher in current issue of Kerrang!
