Did you know that the band have a song, Invisible Man, on the Spiderman movie soundtrack? Not only that but they are included on the single ‘Hero’ by Chad Kroeger – out now. ‘Hero’ features Tyler from Theory Of A Deadman, Chad from Nickelback, Josey from Saliva and Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden). Mike Kroeger plays bass in the video, and the Our Lady Peace drummer plays in the video as Matt Cameron had to leave unexpectedly – you can see the video on our downloads page. The movie is out now. This is your first chance to hear Theory Of A Deadman! The tracklisting for the ‘Hero’ single is: 1.’Hero (Movie Version)’ 2.’Hero (Gold Mix)’ 3.Theory Of A Dead Man ‘Invisible Man’ 4.’Hero (video)’ Who are Theory Of A Deadman?! They are a new band from Vancouver in Canada, signed to Roadrunner through a production deal we did with Chad Kroeger’s (Nickelback’s vocalist) production company. Chad produced their album with Joey Moi and Randy Staub was the mixer. In the words of RR A&R, they are “amazing mainstream radio rock, with elements of Nickelback, Soundgarden, etc, etc” Plans are afoot for them to start touring the US.
The following is an official press statement, personally written by vocalist Burton C. Bell, regarding the break up of Fear Factory. Burton’s words are as follows: On Saturday, March 2nd, 2002, I met with all the members of FEAR FACTORY. At that meeting I announced my personal feelings about the present situation within the band. I have been unhappy for quite sometime both interpersonally, and business wise, and that has rendered me creatively restrained. After extensive deliberation within my self, I decided that the best possible answer I was comfortable with was to leave the band. This is not a whimsical advance into the unknown, it is something that I have been thinking about for quite sometime. I have kept my feelings and realizations to myself until it was evident that it was a relationship that was unproductive to me as an artist. This decision was a sudden development to most everyone to whom I am familiar with. We have experienced many highs, and just as many lows in the span of 12 years, and I do not regret a single moment. I have searched within me, every possible avenue of execution in making this decision and I feel that for me, and my growth as an artist, moving forward is the best possible solution. I would like to extend my wishes to the guys í¢äåñthe best of luck in their future endeavorsí¢äå. I will miss the relationship I had with the fans and I want to thank them for their support through all the years. Burton C. Bell It is with heavy heart that we write this, but recent rumors you may have heard or read elsewhere regarding Fear Factory are true. If you do not know what we are talking about, the bottom line is that Fear Factory is no longer together as a band. This past Saturday (Mar 2), vocalist Burton Bell sat the band down in their rehearsal studio to announce his intentions of leaving the band. For whatever reasons, Burton no longer has the want to carry on in Fear Factory. And the rest of the band – guitarist Dino Cazares, bassist Christian Olde Wolbers, drummer Raymond Herrera – do not have the want to carry on with Fear Factory without Burton. After 12 years, Fear Factory call it quits. Fear Factory, whom had actually been writing new material – recently sending in a demo of five new tracks (just guitar and bass tracks) – will still be recording at least one last song together for the time being. To take place at some point in coming weeks, they will be recording a new, as of yet untitled track for the upcoming “Terminator” video game. Plans after that are not yet fully known. However, we will surely be keeping tabs, and keeping you updated on all future band member endeavours. You have yet to hear the last from Fear Factory, as plans are forming to release their never heard debut album, Concrete, containing 16 tracks – half of which were re-recorded for their Roadrunner debut, Soul Of A New Machine. The album was recorded in 1991 and was produced by a then unknown Ross Robinson. It was this album that made its way to Roadrunner’s A&R dept and earned the band a record deal. Speaking of Roadrunner’s A&R dept, head of A&R Monte Conner, who signed Fear Factory, had this to say: “It’s hard to be sad when you consider that Fear Factory had a solid and successful 10 year run and for that, I am incredibly thankful. How many artists today even make it to a second album? All good things come to an end and in this case, it is a very natural thing to happen. It’s nice to know that they went out on a high after making an awesome record – Digimortal. As a consolation to the most diehard fans, we’ve got a few interesting things in the vaults that we will be releasing in the future. I want to thank Dino, Burton, Christian and Raymond for making some incredible records for Roadrunner and helping put this label on the map. I will forever be proud of these records and thrilled that I was a part of them . I wish all four of them the best in their future musical endeavors, and hope Roadrunner can be a part of some of them. FF – R.I.P.” A toast to Fear Factory, their 12 year career, their 10 year relationship with us at Roadrunner, and all releases and feats accomplished – all impressive. All our best.

Not since May 1st have we made mention of Twice The Sun. Well, things are happening in camp once again: Miami’s Twice The Sun debuted their new line up last week at two Southern Florida shows – Thursday, August 22 at Fort Lauderdale’s Culture Room opening for Darwin’s Waiting Room, and Saturday, the 24th headlining the Mars Music Store’s Mars-fest. The two shows, which debuted new frontman Armando Soler (ex-Insidious) and drummer Alex “Zeus” Garcia, replacing former frontman James Partridge and drummer Tommy Garrett, showed a much leaner, more focused sounding Twice The Sun. The set-list consisted of mostly newer material: “Should I?”, “Tribute”, “Restless”, “Breaking Away” and a piano-only number, “Changes”, that showed the new frontman’s considerable vocal range and personality. “He’s got a great range and voice,” says guitarist Peter Santa Maria of Twice The Sun’s new frontman. “Armando’s younger and has tons of energy. Plus, he’s one of those frontmen that gets up there and kids can totally relate to him – and the funny thing was prior to joining Twice The Sun, he had only been on stage three times in his entire life!. He’s a natural if there ever was one!” On the band’s new drummer: “Zeus brings a lot more power and versatility to the band,” adds keyboardist Damien Biltres. “Think Stewart Copeland and Bill Bruford but waaay heavier.” The only two “older” songs played were “Reach Out” and “Angelina”. While the show’s focus was on the band’s new line-up and material, the overall sound was unmistakably Twice The Sun. Heavy, hooky and keyboard driven. Says Santa Maria: “This is the Twice The Sun we always wanted to be.”
Hot off the email, direct from Twice The Sun: We would like to announce that we have found a new singer. Here is the new TTS line up: Armando Soler í¢äåäóì Vocals Alex í¢äåñZeusí¢äå Garcia í¢äåäóì Drums Tony Senita í¢äåäóì Bass Peter Santa-Maria í¢äåäóì Guitar Damian Biltres í¢äåäóì Keyboards We are already in the process of writing new material and preparing for our first Roadrunner Records release which is scheduled for Summer 2003. We have recorded a new song called í¢äåñRestlessí¢äå and we hope to have it mixed soon. As soon as it’s ready we will post it on our website for all of you to hear. The website is currently down for re-design, look for it to be up around August 20th. Our first show back will be MARS FEST 2002: Saturday, August 24, 2002 MARS MUSIC STORE , DOLPHIN MALL 3 p.m. to ? FREE ALL AGES SHOW (Turnpike to NW 12 St Dolphin Mall Blvd. Exit) Thank you to everyone who has supported us from the beginning and through this turbulent time. You know who you are. We hope to see you all at the show! -Twice The Sun Armando, Zeus, Tony, Peter & Damian p.s. Don’t forget to check out the first ever TTS Fansite by Vanessa at http://www.ttsun.net She has exclusive pics of the new band members and more! Onwards… “Well, as some of you may have heard by now, drummer Tommy Garrett and Twice The Sun have parted ways. As with many bands, the evil “Creative Differences” beast reared its ugly head. Basically, ever since we recorded the demos for Roadrunner, Tommy had been growing increasingly unhappy with the direction the music and the writing process was taking, and it was leading to tension and frustration among all of us. Tommy started this band along with the rest of us, so it was a very difficult decision for Twice The Sun, but it was a mutual decision that we should part ways. Honestly, it’s one of the hardest things any of us has ever had to do, band-related or otherwise. We love Tommy as a person and friend, and we know he is going to be great in whatever he does musically in the future, but for the rest of us it’s time to move on. Thanks to everyone that has supported us over this year and a half, and we’ll see you soon.” James, Tony, Peter & Damian – Twice The Sun
Get yourself to the MUSIC section. Check out “Transgenic”. This piece is a remix by Technohead, actually what you call a ‘Gabber-style’ remix. It is based off the song “New Breed”, which previously appeared both on the “Burn” European single and as a bonus track on the Japanese version of Remanufacture (Cloning Technology). It also appeared on the European 12″ single “The Gabber Mixes,” where it was re-titled “New Breed (Steel Gun Mix)”. We give you “Refueled” – a remix as done by Junkie XL. This is an alternate remix of “H-K (Hunter Killer)”, and as with “Cyberdyne”, this song was an out-take of the Remanufacture (Cloning Technology) sessions. This too previously only appeared on the “Burn” European single. We give you “Cyberdyne”. This is actually a remix as done by Junkie XL – a remix of “H-K (Hunter Killer)”, which was originally meant to be included on the Remanufacture (Cloning Technology) album, but was cut due to an excess of material. It previously appeared on the “Burn” European single. So, our fearless Road Crew leader in the USA, Ro, is officially out in LA. He called about an hour ago. MTV’s TRL was on the tube, an interview with Hoobastank in the MTV studio was happening. Why do you care? Apparently one of the cats in the band was wearing a Brujeria t-shirt. Brujeria on MTV. Now that’s something you don’t see everyday… Speaking of Brujeria, Fear Factory’s guitarist Dino Cazares tells the following – a Brujeria side project has been formed. The name of the band is Asesino, which means assassin in Spanish. Asesino is actually a character from Brujeria…but you should already know that… Asesino’s purpose? To assassinate anyone that gets in Brujeria’s way – be it judges, cops, lawyers, whomever…ALSO, word is Asesino will perform a kidnapping here and there for ransom, tis a way to make a few extra bucks. It’s true. Does the above sound interesting? Well, most likely come June, Asesino will be releasing an album, titled Cyco Maton, which means ‘psycho killer’ in Spanish. “Hey Brujo,” Dino yells across the room during the phone call as he is explaining the meaning of Cyco Maton…why was that last line just written? No reason, except to make known the fact that Dino was hanging out with the infamous Juan Brujo…that’s right, Juan fuckin Brujo!!! (yes, that does deserve an exclamation point, even three) Anyway, the theme behind the upcoming Cyco Maton release is the life of Asesino – with no gory detail omitted, we’re sure. Fifteen songs have been written and recorded for this release – Dino on guitar, Fear Factory’s Raymond Herrera on drums, and Static X’s Tony Campos on vocals. What about the bass, you ask? Dino and Tony took turns on the tracks, as no full time bassist has been lined up as of yet. When and where you can get this release to follow. We give you “Descent”, the Falling Deeper Mix. As with the remix of “Edgecrusher” which we put yesterday, previously this cut was only available on the “Cars” European single. This track was remixed and engineered by Junkie XL. We give you “Edgecrusher”, the Urban Assault Mix. Previously, this cut was only available on the “Cars” European single. This track was remixed by Rhys Fulber and engineered by Junkie XL. Today’s offering, why it just so happens to be “Demolition Racer”. Yes, tis another song from the “Demolition Racer” video game. You may recognize a section of this song that later became the chorus of “Acres Of Skin”. Sound familiar? Listen for yourself. Though only 50 seconds in length, these are 50 seconds of music which will bite you in the ass. No doubt. Today’s offering is “Machine Debaser”. Produced by David Tickle & Fear Factory and mixed by Greg Reely back in June 1999, this song was one of four recorded for use in the video game “Demolition Racer”. Parts of it were later recycled and became the chorus of “Hurt Conveyer” and the bridge of “What Will Become?”. Sound familiar? Listen for yourself Did You Know? Christian Olde Wolbers, the bassist of Fear Factory, appears in Cypress Hill’s latest video – “Trouble”. It’s true. He also played bass for the band in the studio on the tracks “Trouble” and “Catastrophe”. True too. But, did you know, starting later this month when Cypress Hill hits the road with Linkin Park, Christian will be doing the live bass duties for Cypress Hill? True, true, true. Christian, break a leg! The ‘Linchpin’ single is out now. Tracklisting is as follows: 1. Linchpin 2. Frequency (brand new track – more info below) 3. Machine Debaser – (an instrumental done at the same time as “Full Metal Contact”, but parts of this song were later used for new songs on Digimortal) 4.Linchpin (video) Do you remember in the tour stories we mentioned the gal who puckered up for a ticket in Manchester? Well, we got an email from a friend of the lucky guy on the other side of those lips… his words go like this… hi. well our story goes like this.my friend (andrew mcevitt) and myself went around the back of the manchester academy to see if we could meet any of fear factory.me especially as they are one of my favourite bands.we actually met both raymond herrera and dino cazares.while we were with dino,a girl asked what she could do to get into the show for free… And that’s how single FF fan Andy made a new friend! Did they enjoy the show after that? After meeting dino and raymond we were on a high and that made the excellent show even better.fear factory were amazing live and very nice people too! Thanks for the explanation Ben! Check your postbox in a coupla days… anyone else out there with cool stories from the tour? Or just cool FF-related stories? This past summer Fear Factory hit the studio in LA and recorded a track called “Frequency”. The track was recorded and mixed in two days, for use in a game that was being developed – also titled Frequency. A game called Frequency will be put out for Sony PlayStation 2. A game like none other before it – a music mixing game. Though details of the full scope of this game go beyond our description, the basic concept behind this game is that you can re-mix songs by artists as if you are ‘the man’ in the studio. Fear Factory’s “Frequency”, which is the title track for this game, is one such song you can break down and build up. Word is there will be 25 songs total for you to be ‘the man’. Interesting fact: “Frequency” was recorded 4 months after Fear Factory’s latest release Digimortal was completed, making this the newest FF track out there… and it’s on the Linchpin single!!
At the urging of the two cats who brought the band to Roadrunner, Dave Bason and Mike Gitter, we present to you the demos that “sealed the deal for the band and label.” Just posted are the three demos that were the product of the band’s session with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette. One track in MP3 format (“Angelina”), and the other two coupled as a RealAudio stream (“Reach Out” and “Into A Silence”). The demos can be found in our MUSIC section. Miami’s Twice the Sun inks with Roadrunner. Having built a fervent Florida following, Twice The Sun is Roadrunner’s newest act. A former Pimp Rock Palace “band of the month”, Twice The Sun has distinguished themselves with a keyboard and guitar-driven sound that flirts between passionate and progressive with soaring, evocative vocals, jarring guitars and huge melodies. And heaviness aplenty. Twice The Sun came to Roadrunner as a joint signing between R2 Publishing head Dave Bason (aka, the man who brought the Strokes to RCA) and Roadrunner A&R guy Mike Gitter (Ill Nino, Killswitch Engage, Glassjaw). A demo session with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Incubus/STP) sealed the deal for the band and label. What does A&R Mike have to say about the deal? “I’m beyond excited about finally inking Twice The Sun. They’re the best new band I’ve seen in ages, straddling the line between the heavy, the passionate, the melodic and the progressive. Their songs pull you in toss shitloads of music at you and they probbaly have the best young singer I’ve EVER come across. The way it all happened was back in October, R2 publishing guy, Dave Bason got an MP3 from one of our scout/internet trolls. I happened to be going down to Florida the next day to see another band well, it just so happened that Twice The Sun was on the show. So, I was naturally pretty excited about seeing them. Well, I’m at the club in Fort Lauderdale and up scampers the band’s 19 year old guitarist Peter Santa Maria who just started rapping with me. We ended up talking about everything from music to comic books and instantly clicked. I asked him for a demo which he promptly gave me. I had to move my rental car so I popped the demo in and was pretty blown away. Well, so I got back to the show where the band was going on and I was pretty knocked out. First off, they have a very unique keyboard driven sound that was very much its own but definitely drew comparisons to Perfect Circle, Cave In, Staind and some heavier proggressive bits. Secondly, the singer, James Partridge, was a star (dressed as the devil at the time as it was a Halloween show) and really had the most deeply affecting voice I’ve heard in ages. And, quite honestly, from the John Bonham-like drummer, Tommy Garret to the bassist Tony Senita to Peter, the guitarist and Damien, the keyboardist, they were really fantastic musicians. Suffice to say, I was pretty blown away. Got back to New York and in one of our A&R meetings shortly thereafter Bason (who was also blown away) and I secured some demo money for the band. We hired a guy named Michael “Elvis” Baskette to do the demos. Elvis is a 26 year old GOD engineer, having already worked with the likes of Incubus and STP. A few weeks later, Elvis was in Miami working with the band. What he came back with sealed the deal for us. Just so fucking great. Twice The Sun really do live up to their name.” Says Baskette: “They’re an incredibly talented young band with an amazing singer that has the potential to write anything. They will explode!” Adds Twice The Sun keyboardist Damien Biltres: “We’re ecstatic to be with Roadrunner and can’t wait to get into the studio!” Tentative plans are for Twice the Sun to hit the studio with Baskette in early Autumn. For gigs and updates, check the band’s official site at www.twicethesun.com.

Got any cool stories or comments on the FF tour? You can check out some more of our photos in the gallery. LONDON & LONDON – not content with only 1 show in town, the band played 2 consecutive nights at the Astoria. For those attending both shows, the band mixed up the set a little, playing Resurrection the first night, and swopping it for Martyr and Invisible Wounds the second night. Support came from Janus Stark and Godflesh, but that didn’t stop Sugacoma getting onstage to join our boys for Edgecrusher! Talk about crazy moshpits and crowd-surfers… wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a few broken bones and bruises out there, but everyone leaving we saw had a big ol’ smile plastered across their face. A highlight of the shows? Hard to say… on Friday the crowd were going for it big style for the whole set… NEWCASTLE & NOTTINGHAM – another 2 blinding shows notched up! We hear although Godflesh weren’t playing Newcastle they snuck in anyway… and even took over the stage for one song in the middle of FF’s set! Now here’s a truly cool tale… Fear Factory fan and Roadrunner street teamer Paul Clarkin went to the Nottingham show: “Mutha fucker! Was that one hell of a good gig. I met Mindee then Dino at around 6.30pm. We went to their dressing room with two Canadian girls who were mates of his. We chatted for a bit and he said he remembered me from Northampton and he remembered coming out and flyering with me and Leo (another RR teamer). He said he’d do it again, but then he had to go do a Polish radio phone call, so he gave us Access All Areas passes and left us to wander”. All Areas passes? You think that was cool!? Read on.. Paul sez, “They fucking rocked. The best bit… during Edgecrusher, Dino noticed me singing my lungs out, as you do. He grabbed my arm and dragged me up the side steps. He shouted “sing the chorus”. I was like “no fucking way”. Next thing I know I’m in front of the mic singing with Burton “break of the Edgecrusher”!! IT WAS FUCKING COOL!!!” Anyone get a photo of this?! If so, send it in and we’ll return it with a pile of rare goodies for your trouble! MANCHESTER & GLASGOW – The weekend just gone, Fear Factory (still in excellent form I might add) tore up Manchester and Glasgow. Again, the queue to get in stretched down the road. About 20 Roadrunner teamers were hanging out with Dino before the show in Manchester round the back of the Academy, getting their shit signed and just shooting the breeze. Word musta got out though, coz before we knew it, there was a steady trickle of fans finding their way over presenting all manner of things to sign – even a car mat! One gal was so desperate for a ticket to see the show that night she not only offered to strip in the street, she puckered up for a surprised (and happy!) bloke. Moral is: hang onto your spare, you never know what you might get offered. The night wouldn’t have been complete without a few aftershow beers though… and where better to hang out than with our good friends at the Rock Kitchen (K2 Bar, Met SU). If you are ever in Manchester you will have a good time here! Run by Jason & Kevin, it was certainly a night to remember, though RR staff and FF may well have had some trouble with the remembering bit the morning after. BELFAST & DUBLIN – The UK tour kicked off on Halloween in Belfast… having spoken to Gaz Brooks & James McCullough, attending street teamers, since the word is the whole gig went off! The Limelight was crammed to the doors and kids were queueing down the street as far as the eye could see to get in! In the words of Gaz, “it was a classic set, and the songs off Digimortal sound 10 times better live, the crowd was really up for it, and everyone had a great time!” Gaz & James got to meet the band before the show and have been raving about how nice and happy the band were to sign anything they could put under their noses. So what are you gonna get to hear on the remaining dates? We hear these songs were part of the storming setlist… What Will Become, Edgecrusher, Linchpin, Self Bias Resistor, Replica, Digimortal, No-one, Resurrection, and Scapegoat. Gaz reports his highlight of the night was hearing the mighty Edgecrusher! Did you see the band at Reading and Leeds festival this summer? Check out our Roadrunner photo special from Reading in the gallery. Check out the Digimortal e-card!! The video for ‘Linchpin’ can be seen in the VIDEO section.
Fear Factory’s Digimortal Album Both CD (í£11.99) & Digipack (í£12.99) are out now and available from the following: HMV, Virgin, V.Shop/Our Price, MVC, Andys, and all good Indies! Full tracklisting for the band’s new album is as follows: (comments from Raymond) What Will Become Damaged Digimortal – This song is very much like Shock with groovy verses, a lot of triplets on the kick drums, and a very melodic chorus. No One Linchpin – This song is all about groove. Extremely catchy chorus, this will be the sing-along song for sure. Think of this as Replica meets Martyr. Invisible Wounds (Dark Bodies) – This song is a lot like Descent, but even catchier. will also be a big sing-along song for sure. But then the middle turns into this extremely heavy Fear Factory mechanical type middle section. Very epic song like Resurrection. Acres Of Skin – OK, plain and simple If you remember the first song on the Pantera record Far Beyond Driven, than that is what this song is like. Back The Fuck Up features vocal guest Cypress Hill frontman B-Real Byte Block – This is probably the most industrial song we’ve got. It starts out with this killer guitar pattern into a kick drum pattern. Starts kind of like Zero Signal, but it is an alternating kick drum pattern, then breaks into parts of that pattern for the verses, into a straight heavy chorus like New Breed. Hurt Conveyor – This song is a rock song all the way. The chorus has a Deftones touch to it.” (Memory Imprints) Never End Bonus tracks on the digipack are: Dead Man Walking Strain vs. Resistance Repentance Full Metal Contact You can check out live shots of the guys from their March 2001 show in Northampton in the gallery. ON THE WEB… Did you miss the live webchat Burton & Christian did at Radio 1’s website? You can read the transcript on their website. Digimortal mini-series! ‘Digimortal’ is a product of 10 years labour by FF. This 4-part series takes you into the mind of FF and it’s members and gives you a glimpse into what it took to create Digimortal. You can see the whole lot in the video section! Roadrunner have reissued their seminal 1992 Industrial Death Metal debut ‘Soul Of A New Machine’ at mid-price. You can check out a whole bunch of photos from the studio session for Digimortal in the gallery! Dino, guitarist, says: “We’ve avoided typical studios like Indigo Ranch. We don’t want to be working and the all of a sudden have Limp Bizkit walk in- that could be distracting!” The new album is produced by Rhys Fulber. Time on your hands?
