Code Orange have shared “only1(the hard way),” “only1(the hard way)” is a remix of Code Orange’s “Only One Way,” which was released earlier this month as part of Adult Swim’s Singles Series.
Code Orange guitarist and vocalist Shade, who helmed the remix, explained to The FADER, “Keeping a unique creative energy in every aspect of Code Orange is something we are always thinking about and it’s what drives me personally. This song was a great opportunity for me to portray my alternate vision of the song and for us to bridge the gap with other genres and artists we are influenced by. We are constantly evolving and we’re going to keep pushing the boundaries of our band.”
Recorded with producer Will Yip at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, “Only One Way” and the accompanying remix, “only1(the hard way),” mark the first new music from the band since the release of their widely acclaimed LP FOREVER, which earned Code Orange a Grammy nomination and topped several “Best of 2017” lists including: Rolling Stone’s “20 Best Metal Albums of 2017,” Revolver’s “20 Best Albums of 2017,” and The Independent’s “Top 20 Rock & Metal Albums of 2017.”
Following this year’s Grammy’s, Code Orange spoke to Rolling Stone.

alt-J and Code Orange have released new remixes of alt-J tracks “Adeline” and “Hit Me Like That Snare.”
alt-J drummer Thom Sonny Green has long been a fan of Code Orange’s music, which prompted the collaboration.
Code Orange guitarist / vocalist Shade explains, “I wanted to dismantle the songs entirely and completely rebuild them as if they had come from a different world, and that’s what I did. See the world with Code Orange vision. No boxes, no boundaries, no fear.”
alt-J was equally excited about the collaboration stating, “It’s not often we get to collaborate with heavy artists so having Code Orange step up and give us two amazing remixes is a real treat. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.”
Both remixes are available today via Canvasback & Roadrunner.
Zakharov previously co-directed with Shade on Code Orange’s animated video for “Mud” which you can view here.
alt-J are Joe Newman, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Thom Green. Their debut album An Awesome Wave won the prestigious Mercury Prize in the UK and sold Gold in the US and Canada. Their second album, This Is All Yours was nominated for a Grammy for Best Alternative Album. The band have headlined festivals across the globe and sold out London’s O2 arena and New York’s Madison Square. Their latest album Relaxer is out now.
Code Orange have shared their official music video for industrial-tinged monster “The Mud,” which debuted in the USA during Adult Swim’s Toonami. The animated video, which was directed by Dmitry Zakharov and Code Orange’s Shade, is streaming now on the band’s YouTube Channel and on Adult Swim’s website. Earlier this year Code Orange was announced for Adult Swim’s 2017 Singles Series, which features 52 new tracks from a variety of artists over the course of 52 weeks.
Recorded with producers Will Yip at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA and Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studios in Salem, MA, the album FOREVER debuted earlier this year immediately staking its claim as one of 2017’s top releases and placing Code Orange firmly at the front of the pack. The Independent stated, “One of the early 21st century’s leading innovators in heavy music.” “Code Orange are winning over new fans in record time. Give them a chance and you’ll soon be theirs,” commented Upset, adding “Code Orange are nothing short of spectacular.” Having already called it, “The most important heavy release of 2017, ” Metal Hammer elaborated, “Forever isn’t just a great hardcore record – it’s one that’s ripped up the blueprint and pieced it back together in the most outrageously breathtaking way. This is a stone cold modern classic.” Shortlist agreed, calling it “life-affirmingly exhilarating,” with Terrorizer declaring it, “A confrontational, wilfully challenging, and obsessively interesting release.” Kerrang! said, “Hardcore’s most exciting band, drop the fiercest, most original noise of 2017.”
Not just beloved in the UK, in the US media Rolling Stone included FOREVER as one of the 50 Best Albums of 2017 So Far and selected Code Orange as one of 10 New Artists You Need to Know: February 2017 exclaiming, “FOREVER captures some of the most punishing noise the band has recorded to date, featuring songs rife with sudden transitions to still-harsher textures.” The Fader featured Code Orange as one of their 13 Artists You Need To Know About In 2017, while Nerdist declared, “Code Orange is back and heavier than ever,” adding, “These kids were heavy before, but they just increased density by a hundred percent and then crushed all livings under their weight.” NPR praised Code Orange’s FOREVER, asserting that it, “…is among its most bruising works, with surprises throughout,” while Pitchfork asserted, “the heavy rock mainstream could use a good razing, and Code Orange are well-equipped for the demolition job.”
Roadrunner Records label mates Creeper and Code Orange will be helping soundtrack WWE NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. Code Orange ‘Bleeding In The Blur’ and Creeper ‘Poison Pens’ are both official theme songs!
