Tommy’s Track By Track VI

Posted on February 12, 2008

It is a hot and sticky Friday afternoon here in London, and all are pleased it is the end of the week. Alas, it is also the end of our Spineshank track by track, written by drummer Tommy Decker. The final 2 songs are below. 12 songs in, we are done. So if you haven’t picked up the ‘Self-Destructive Pattern’ CD yet, you now know what to do tomorrow. Of course, once you have picked up the album, we suggest you head over to FREE SHIT and try your luck winning a plethora of cool Spineshank swag – signed drumskins, tshirts, hats, videos.. shot glasses – lots up for grabs. And over to Tommy, for the last word… 11. Fallback “This was also on the first demo we did for this record. We approached this song with a totally different attitude than we do most of our other songs. We wanted it to sound like the four of us playing live with no loops or any weird sounds or effects. It was really strange at first and felt like we were forgetting something… but as we listened to it we realized that it had a raw “live” vibe to it.” 12. Dead To Me “What can I say about this song, it sounds just like a song called “Dead To Me” should. Fast pissed off and noisy. I feel like this song has a lot in common with some stuff off of “The Height Of Callousness” – it is extremely heavy, but it has a lot of different levels to it. I think the riff in the bridge is one of the best and biggest riffs Mike has ever come up with and the ending is fucking out of control. We initially wanted this song to be earlier in the sequence but we realized that this is the best way to end the record. “

Tommy’s Track By Track V

Posted on February 12, 2008

Or track by track of the new Spineshank record, detailed by Tommy Decker, continues… 9. Stillborn “Here is another song where it was just me and Mike going off into our own little world, kinda just messing around and coming up with something cool. It started off with a drum beat that Mike fucked with in Pro Tools and created the whole begining section. Once we had that, the rest of the song just wrote itself. We had the entire song recorded and had to take the weekend off from recording, Gggarth had the idea to work on some new vocals and lyrics during our time off, so we went in on a Saturday and just pumped out new vocals. It gave the song a whole new identity, and got us really excited about it. Usually it takes me a week or more to work on lyrics but this song all came out in one night. We knew if we wanted this song on the record we had to make it happen in 2 days and everything finally fell into place (for once!)” 10. Falls Apart “I had this idea for a really whacked out song with a lot of different time signatures and tons of changes, the kind of song thats almost hard to listen to. So Mike and I started writing this song. it was really fucked up and and weird. As soon as Jonny came in and put some vocals on it, we realized that the song was really catchy and should be a little more straight forward. So we went in and simplified it. We tried to concentrate on the verse riff because it really stood out and had a great groove. It ended being one of the most straight forward songs on the record. But once again, I think it just works.” Self-Destructive Pattern is OUT NOW. more to come…

The Long Road

Posted on February 12, 2008

Roadrunner Records are pleased to announce that Nickelback are set to release their highly anticipated album The Long Road on September 22, 2003. Nickelback was the US #1 Most Played Rock Artist of 2002 Across All Radio Formats on the strength of 3 singles: “How You Remind Me”, “Too Bad”, and “Never Again.í¢ä‰åŒ Additionally and no less impressively, Nickelback earned the US #1 Most Played Song of 2002 with “How You Remind Me”. Since then, a string of hits has kept Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger’s evocative voice, and undeniable songs, firmly placed on commercial radio playlists. The songs on The Long Road are the heir-apparent to this amazing success story to date – and they deliver in spades. From the infectiousness of the first single “Someday”, to the dynamic “Feelin’ Way Too Damn Good,” to the striking chord progressions of “Do This Anymore” and the emotive lyrics of “Throw Yourself Away,” the result is an album that finds Nickelback’s signature guitar rock built upon and taken to new heights. The video for the album’s first single, “Someday,” was recently shot in Vancouver by video director Nigel Dick. Since the release of Silver Side Up, the band was nominated for four Grammy Awards, nabbed 4 Billboard Awards and was awarded a Juno Award for í¢ä‰åñSongwriters Of The Year,í¢ä‰åŒ for their songs, í¢ä‰åñHow You Remind Meí¢ä‰åŒ and í¢ä‰åñToo Badí¢ä‰åŒ. The album also garnered gold and/or platinum status in over 10 countries with the UK (3X platinum) and the band’s homeland of Canada (7X platinum) pulling in the highest marks. These are just a few accolades that have accompanied the band’s meteoric rise to the top of the charts. Following the release of The Long Road, Nickelback will be embarking on a major US tour this Autumn. The band’s live show is a sound explosion accompanied with eye-popping production. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for tour dates as they are revealed.

Tommy’s Track-By-Track IV

Posted on February 12, 2008

Did you pick it up yet? ‘Self-Destructive Pattern’ is IN STORES NOW (with a free logo patch from ‘Roadrage’ stores too doncha know). Here’s what Terroriser had to say about them: “However you brand them, make sure the words excellent and distinctive head your label.” Two more tracks, detailed by the one and only Tommy Decker, Spineshank’s drummer. 7. Self-Destructive Pattern “This song started off as a 2 minute “almost death metal” song but got worked into what you hear now. Lyrically I was in a really bad place mentally. We had been writing the record for a long time and still werent done. I felt like we were destroying ourselves (hence the title) and there was no way out. This song was written out of that frustration. It stays really hard throughout the entire song with a really cool chorus that sort of reminded me of Alice In Chains. Mike came up with some very different harmonies for the chorus that give it that “eerie” vibe. Rob did some of the best screaming he has ever done on this song.” 8. Tear Me Down “This is another example of a song that just came together very quickly. It’s got a lot of energy and Jonny came up with some great melodies and harmonies in the chorus. “ more to come…
