A Snow-Capped Romance

Posted on February 12, 2008

Don’t take our word for it… here is what PLANET LOUD had to say about the new 36 CRAZYFISTS album… “The debut album from these Portland, Oregan based Alaskans was a blistering displaying of emo/metal but it received mixed reactions from í¢ä‰åñthe kidsí¢ä‰åŒ. Most, like this listener, fell in love with the caustic beauty contained in the grooves however some found vocalist Brocks warbling vocals to be a little hard to cope with. So, two years down the line and, fans of the band will be pleased to know that the band are still as stunning as ever while those of you put off by Brock’s vocals will be pleased to know he’s using a cleaner style this time around. Couple the two together along with a new, more positive outlook on life and you have yourselves a great record. Straight from the off when A Snow Capped Romance kicks off with the searing At The End Of August, a track already featured on the MTV2 Headbangers Ball Compilation, you’re pulled in by the beauty of this record. It’s the depth of emotion contained in the bands sound which has really been exposed courtesy of a cracking job done by producer James Wisner. As the passion and emotion reveals itself throughout the duration of this album, the magic hands of Andy Sneap have worked their wonders on the aggressive element of the bands sound and helped create a wall of sound that is emotion-soaked yet fury-driven. This time around the band experiment a little further with A Song To The Fishermen being a 90 second tribute to Brock’s childhood growing up in Alaska. In fact, the title of the album is a tribute to their roots as the band remember their upbringing in Alaska. All I can say is that whatever it is they put in the water down there, it has produced one of the finest, emotionally-charged records I’ve heard in a long time.” The amazing new 36 Crazyfists album ‘A Snow-Capped Romance’ is released on Monday (March 15th) and is available for around 퉌£11.99 from HMV, Virgin (look out for the 퉌£2 off voucher in Kerrang, issue 13/3), MVC, Music Zone plus your local official ‘Roadrage’ store.

Ten Things I Learnt About You

Posted on February 12, 2008

Before the recent tour, Chimaira & Every Time I Die had never been on the road together, never even hung out for a beer. Eleven guys in 2 bands, complete strangers, sharing a bus for over 3 weeks. A learning experience for sure. We asked Chimaira’s Matt DeVries, and Every Time I Die’s Andy Williams, exactly what they learnt about the other band… What are 10 things you have learnt about ‘Every Time I Die’ this tour? 1. Andy’s motto ‘Be awesome’. 2. Keith, great drinking partner. 3. Ratboy hates everyone, we love him though. 4. Jordan has some good DVDs. 5. Steve likes stringing his bass. 6. Andy and Ratboy like the song ‘Clayden’ by the weird renowned Cleveland band Ascension. 7. Keith and Andy have awesome tattoos. Keith has a tooth tattooed on his arm with the word ‘scary’ on it. Andy has a snake tattooed on his ass with the words ‘watch out for snakes’ written next to it (don’t ask). 8. Andy sleeps naked. 9. Andy hates the band Entombed (just kidding). 10. And Andy has a drug problem SXE. What are 10 things you have learnt about Chimaira this tour? 1. Jim likes the word pussy! 2. Ricky drinks a lot of coffee. 3. Mark really doesn’t hate everyone. 4. Matt is awesome! 5. Rob and I are on the same wavelength! 6. Chris may really be a robot I’m not sure though. But I’m learning more! 7. Chimaira LOVE goatees. 8. The infamous Hammer fought one of my favorite NHL thugs! 9. ‘Indifferent To Suffering’ is one of the catchiest songs ever! I have it in my head constantly! 10. I love Matt!

Vol.3 : The Subliminal Verses

Posted on February 12, 2008

Yesterday on MTV.com, Slipknot exclusively revealed the title of their forthcoming album is to be: ‘Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses’. The following piece is taken from MTV.com, written by Jon Wiederhorn. After more than two years in hibernation, Slipknot are about to re-emerge with a new look and a new album, which is cryptically titled Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses. The band will don its third series of masks on this year’s J퀌_germeister Music Tour, which begins March 30 in Orlando, Florida. The new masks are more streamlined than those Slipknot wore on the 2002 tour for their second album, Iowa, but the look is basically the same. “It’s just an extension of what we wore last time, they just have more elaborate detail,” said drummer Joey Jordison. “You can still tell which guy is who, so I don’t think the kids are gonna be confused.” Nor will they be confused by Slipknot’s new music, Jordison said. As with the masks, the vibe is instantly familiar, but the songs are more developed than the group’s prior material. The first track released will be “Pulse of the Maggots,” which comes out the same day the J퀌_germeister Music Tour launches. “It’s got the feel of Ministry crossed with Slayer,” Jordison said. “It’s heavier than f— and it’s really cool. Also, it’s the first introduction to the shredder old-school guitar solos of Mick [Thompson] and Jim [Root]. Mick and Jim are two of the best guitar players I’ve ever heard, and I think it’s cool that we never really showcased their talent at playing technical metal solos. But when you hear them play back-and-forth solos on that track, it’s so insane that it kind of makes you laugh.” “Pulse of the Maggots,” like many songs on Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, due May 24, is about the band’s development over the last couple of years and the relationship it continues to nurture with its fans. “It’s a rallying cry anthem, and it’s about how our fans still hold the flag for a band that has been gone for two years. It’s a tribute to them, fully.” Slipknot chose the name Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses because while the album is an obvious cry of rage and frustration, there’s an underlying theme of bonding and unification. “I don’t necessarily look at it as a negative or evil title,” Jordison said. “I just think there are so many internal thoughts and so much intensity within the lyrics that there are a lot of different meanings that can be pulled out of it. A lot of feelings went into the making of this record, and after digesting the whole thing you can really see that we’re dealing a lot with getting back together and learning how to be a band again.” The first “official” single, “Duality,” expresses the dichotomy of the bandmembers wanting to be away from one another and striving to get back together. “It’s about realizing how important we are to our fans and how important they are to us, and how important we are to each other,” Jordison said. “It’s about creating that movement again.” The track is the most experimental single the band has ever released. “It’s got one of the heaviest grooves we ever came up with,” Jordison said. “It’s a dark song, but the chorus is very liberal as far as tones and things that we’ve never done before, and the things we’ve done with [singer] Corey [Taylor]’s voice are really wild.” Slipknot will shoot a performance video for the song later this month in their hometown of Des Moines, Iowa, with Mark Klasfeld and Tony of Vem and Tony. “It’s gonna really show the actual intensity of the band,” Jordison said. “Doing it in our hometown will really bring out an ethereal type of vibe that I don’t think we could capture by being in L.A.” We leave you with this brand new photo of Slipknot, with their new masks, HERE.

Within The Mind

Posted on February 12, 2008

Chimaira will be entering Spider Studios on March 22nd to record some music from ‘Death’ records “Symbolic” and “Human” for the upcoming tribute cd “Within The Mind – In Homage To The Musical Legacy Of Chuck Schuldiner.” Chuck Schuldiner was the leader of the seminal death metal band ‘Death’ who passed away in late 2001 from a brain tumor. Legendary guitarist James Murphy will be handling the production duties along side Chimaira. For more information on this cd and the other artists that are involved please click here. Mark Hunter comments on their involvement by saying, “Not only is this an honor for us, but it is very personal to me. Without Chuck’s music, I would not be singing today. We will do our best to please all of Chuck’s fans, and honor all of the other great musicians involved.”

100,000 Milestone

Posted on February 12, 2008

hot from the US press office… FIRST BAND IN METAL’s NEW BREED TO SELL OVER 100,000 COPIES New York, NY: New England-based 5-piece Killswitch Engage is the first in metal’s new generation of bands to scan over 100,000 copies. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the band reached this milestone recently with their debut Roadrunner release, ALIVE OR JUST BREATHING. Through a firmly entrenched DIY ethic, relentless touring and growing word of mouth on the act, Killswitch Engage have broken through this first level. This was no small feat for a band that was forced to bring on a new lead singer (Howard Jones) two weeks after the release of the album after the departure of their original vocalist (Jesse Leach). Killswitch Engage is the creative pacesetter of this burgeoning musical movement that includes such up and coming metal crusaders as Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Bleeding Through and As I Lay Dying. Alternative Press concurs, í¢ä‰åñKillswitch represent a changing of the guard, the growing consciousness of a truly new metal movement.í¢ä‰åŒ Their reign as leaders of metal’s new school is undeniable. The band is set to release their highly anticipated third album The End of Heartache on May 11, 2004. The album is an inspiring amalgam of sound í¢ä‰åäóì uncompromising riffs fused with harmonious, thunderous vocals. The End of Heartache is a testimonial to the band’s musical talent and accomplishment. Killswitch will debut their new material in a live setting as headliners at the New England Metalfest on Friday, April 30th. Shortly after this performance, the band is set to go out on a co-headline run with Swedish metal unit, In Flames. The tour will kick off May 3rd and wrap up on June 4th. The band’s live performance is one to witness. Killswitch had the critics raving as part of 2003’s Ozzfest and MTV2’s Headbangers Ball tour – í¢ä‰åñKillswitch Engage combines a classically irresistible lumbering groove with razoring riffs and an alternately rasping and melodic vocal attackí¢ä‰åŒ (LA Weekly), and í¢ä‰åñLed by frontman Howard Jones’ powerful presence, the crowd was on its feet and would not let up for one second throughout the entire setí¢ä‰åŒ (Metal Maniacs).

Don’t Get Close

Posted on February 12, 2008

Activision’s MTX: Motocross game has been making waves on the internet lately, so can we assume that some of you have already heard the new Slipknot track that’s included on the game? For those that haven’t checked it out, do so where you can or pick up the game when it hits shelves here soon, as “Don’t Get Close” will NOT be appearing on the upcoming album in any form, so the demo version on the game is gonna be the only place to hear it. Seems that Slipknot and producer Rick Rubin have a little problem in that there’s too much great shit to choose from, and only so much material they can fit on the new CD. Oh well. Keep checking in here and at Slipknot1.com for info about when we WILL be letting you hear some of the insane shit that is on the upcoming, as-yet-untitled full length, due in stores May 24.
