What’s In A Treatment

Posted on February 12, 2008

NYMPHETAMINE Video… what’s it all about? For every video that is shot, a “treatment” is prepared. This gives the outline of what the video is to be, from camera effects, to mood, storyline, artistic influences and so on. Dave from Cradle Of Filth decided to share a little of the treatment prepared for new video ‘Nymphetamine’, up front of you seeing the final cut. “We wanted to film the band’s performance in a way to bring out all the power of the song and also give the band a dramatic look. Various in-camera tricks were used to give the shots a more ‘edgy’ feel. By deliberately loosening the camera lens there was a controlled effect that dislocates the image and changes the focus between the band and the background. In order to make the performance more dramatic, we were lit so that you don’t see everything clearly at first – appearing more enigmatic and more is revealed as the video develops. The ‘concept’ element of the video is a series of staged tableaux with two characters – the ‘Nymphetamine’ of the title of the song – a beautiful but disturbing siren/dark angel tye of character, and her victim/lover/slave. The scenes loosely reflect the lyrics with the woman first rescuing the other character, then making him her slave and ultimately disposing of him but grieving her loss. We did not want to create the story so that people could ‘read’ it in an obvious way though. The images are more ambiguous so that you, the viewers, can make your own sense out of it and find your own connections with the lyrics. The images seem more dark and disturbing by showing less – instead of more. We let your imagination ‘fill the gaps’ and imagine things that are not really there.”

Who Is… Illdisposed (pt 3)

Name? Jonas Kloge Age?: 31 Instrument? Bass All time favourite record? í¢ä‰åñStraight Up Sewercide…í¢ä‰åñ by DAS EFX. Greatest experience on tour? Maybe that time we were touring in Germany with a substitute singer. We awoke around 10am and started softly on the beer, moving on to the vodka-and-juice, until we were, and I mean, TOTALLY hammered… We arrived in Leipzig around 5pm, and everybody just sort of fell out of the bus and threw up, and pissed on the walls of the concert hall. The organizer cancelled the gig immediately, but our tour manager persuaded them to let us play, if we went to bed at once, and promised not to get up again until our gig was on… Most horrible experience on tour? Same day. Most embarrassing moment that ever happened to you on stage? Played in Aarhus (our hometown) and forgot to turn up the bass for three whole songs… Do you have any sort of ritual before going on stage? NONE, except drinking. With which band would you love to tour with and why? ?? I dont know why. If I wasn’t a musician, I would work as a… Bricklayer Best advice you ever heard? If you get into trouble on stage. Just LOOK like you’re DA MAN. With which famous person (alive or dead) would you love to spend some time and why? Frank Zappa Last Words: It’s very hard to stay unemployed, when you have an education…..Think about it.

A New KsE Interview

Posted on February 12, 2008

In a brand-new interview with the US publication Richmond Times-Dispatch, guitarist Joel Stroetzel was asked to name what it is that might set the band apart from what other groups are doing. “I’m not really sure, to tell you the truth,” he responded. “There are a lot of bands going on now who have a similar sound, and a lot of people are noticing a lot of those bands. I think we’re one of many bands kind of up-and-coming. “I know everybody in the band has very different listening tastes. Adam listens to a lot of pop music. I like a lot of thrash metal and stuff like that. There’s a lot of different elements in the KILLSWITCH arrangements that you can kind of pick out if you’re looking for them.” According to Stroetzel, the fans are ultimately what keep the guitarist excited about what he does for a living. “Being in a touring band is obviously one of the best jobs in the world, in my opinion, but it can still kind of drive you crazy after a while when you don’t get to go home,” Stroetzel said. “So I think one of the things that really keeps me going is when you get in front of a crowd of people and you see people singing along and really getting into the music, playing air guitar along with your parts. It really makes you feel good. It makes you feel like people are listening to what you’re doing.”
