Cradle Q & A

Posted on February 12, 2008

Read below for Cradle Of Filth’s bassist Dave Pybus’ answers to the questions you sent in (more answers to come later this week): Question – Have you guys ever considered doing an all cover album of classic metal? Because I thought what you did with Iron Maiden’s í¢ä‰åñHallowed be Thy Nameí¢ä‰åŒ was fuckin awesome, and it would be really interesting to see how you guys would do Black Sabbath’s í¢ä‰åñIron Man,í¢ä‰åŒ or Metallica’s í¢ä‰åñBattery.í¢ä‰åŒ – Jim Dave Pybus – The only time we ever talk about covers is when we are drunk playing the MISFITS on the tour bus. It’s all just a dream really, a project like that, ‘cos we are so damn busy all the time doing our own material. Maybe, one day, we will attempt the idea. ———————————————————— Question – What kind of weird idea’s does CoF have for there new video? I’m just curious. I can’t wait to hear the new album it sounds like it’s gonna be a killer one. í¢ä‰åäóì Dark Lotus Dave Pybus – I’ve yet to read the treatment for the new video which we will film in London next week. Its gonna be the track í¢ä‰åñNYMPHETAMINEí¢ä‰åŒ and hopefully feature Liv Kristine, seen as she sang on the track. ———————————————————— Question – When do you plan on going on tour for Nymphetamine? Are you planning on a world tour? If so, make it to Louisville, Kentucky. You have so many fans you don’t know about. Plus, I have been trying to go to your concerts for a very long time and now that I can go to them, you’re never around. I’m sorry to sound like I’m bitching, but I needed to tell you guys. Thank you so much! I’m looking forward to the new record! Hail Satan! – Andrea Hill Dave Pybus – Well, the plan is, firstly to survive our South American tour in Septemberí¢ä‰åŒ_haha. Then hit the states in October/November after the new record is out. I’m not sure of the cities we are paying but obviously we try to get to as many people as possible. The tour is always longer than originally planned so maybe we will get closer to you than you think. Hope to see you at one of the other shows if not. ———————————————————— Question – With the signing of you guys to Roadrunner Records, and with interest you have been getting from people since your Ozzfest ’03 appearance (which I saw you guys fucking kicked ass), do you feel you have reached the prime of you careers with the new album Nymphetamine coming out? Or do you feel that you have not even reached what can be with CoF? (I know 2 part question) – Adam Suchara Dave Pybus – Well to think we are in our prime would be a little self-defeating. There is always so much for us to do we don’t get much time to spend thinking about that. At the moment, on the eve of NYMPHETAMINE being released, we are very positive about doing the NEXT record and making it better than anything we have ever done before. There is much evil to spread so lots of hard work stillí¢ä‰åŒ_haha. ———————————————————— Question – Will the band tour in Australia? Particularly, in Perth? Dave Pybus – We haven’t played Australia for a few years and there is plans in the pipeline to get back there asap. It’s looking like spring 2005 and as for the places we will play I’m not sure. I’ve personally never been there so I’m excited about getting a chance to get there to play. ———————————————————— Question – Greetings all of Cradle Of Filth. I would like to know as to the stances of your own personal views on religion. What do you feel about religion as a whole, what is your spiritual standpoint? What philosophers do you most agree towards? – Rayne Gaccione Dave Pybus – Religion for me is a bit of a strange thing. I mean to observe, essentially, I’m an atheist, I find religion to be confusing. I mean, take the 10 commandments for instance. Thou shall not kill? Yet on the news everyday there is religious people KILLING each other. I mean, if all the atheists in the world stood up to this behavior and banned religion as a whole then maybe the world would be a nicer, safer, more tolerant place to live? A little extreme I know but there you go. That’s freedom of speech for ya! ———————————————————— Question – What old album would you compare your new CD to? í¢ä‰åäóì Mitchell S. Dave Pybus – We can’t really compare this new record to anything we have done in the past other than we are continuing the Cradle sound and taking it further. We respect our past and are not denying what we have already done, unlike some other bands these days who seem to want to shun their history. For us, we want to carry on spreading the music. ———————————————————— Question – I would like to know how I could get a prescription for some Nymphetamine? Dave Pybus – So would I haha. Not that I would like to be addicted to something. Everything in moderation is good.

Loudside & Cradle

Posted on February 12, 2008

Whilst on your interest travels today, stop by the Loudside website and have a read of the great brand new interview they’ve done with our boys in Cradle Of Filth just this part Friday. In other COF news, the band will be shooting a video for ‘Nymphetamine’ this Thursday, somewhere in the black depths of London. As for what the video is going to be like, Dani told Loudside: “I’m not gonna say it’s í¢ä‰åñtheatricalí¢ä‰åŒ, but it’s going to be set in the premise that you’re watching theatre. The two lead characters are a male and a female, which are actually two females. So it’s very Shakespearian in that aspect, and kinda a bit lesbian. I won’t say that though cause it will get banned.” For more Cradle, there’s another good new interview over at All Things Metal HERE.

Ascendancy

Posted on February 12, 2008

The guys over at HMAS.ORG are pretty big Trivium fans it seems… “Myself and Reno got to hang out with and interview a band that is very close to the site…Trivium. These thrashers from Florida are a band that we have a special place in our hearts for, and it’s great to see them going so far. We caught up with them in Pittsburgh on their tour with the mighty Iced Earth and Beyond The Embrace. I got the honor of interviewing lead singer/guitarist Matt Heafy and drummer Travis Smith, and it was a blast. Do yourselves a favor and support these guys. Their music will blow you away.” An excerpt from their interview is below, but do read the whole piece, which you can find HERE. Dan: You guys got to tour with God Forbid back in April, which was your first really big tour here in the states. Was it tough, and how much did you enjoy it? Travis: It was awesome! We met some really good friends. The guys from God Forbid, the guys from Scars Of Tomorrow, All That Remains. They’re friends of ours now, and it was a good first tour to get our feet wet, and just get out there and do it! So, it was great for us. Dan: How was the filming for the video for Like Light To Flies? Matt: Cold! Like, negative 20 degrees. It was exhausting. Two 12 hour days. It was great, though. It was a lot of fun besides the work. It was just exhausting. Travis: Yeah, what Matt said. It was tough, but it did help us out in the end. Dan: How did you come up with the name Trivium, and what does it mean? Matt: Our old lead singer came up with it, and we stole it from him. It’s Latin for three-way intersection, and Old English for the old school of learning. It’s for grammar, rhetoric, and logic. Dan: I’d like to congratulate you on your signing with Roadrunner Records. How did this come about? Matt: Luck, man. Total luck. Just the right people saw us playing at the right time. They also saw the video, so that did help a lot. Travis: Yup, we’re lucky and proud to be here. Dan: How’s work on the new album progressing? Matt: We did tracking and some pre-production. There’s around 12 or 13 songs that we’re working on. Dan: Do you have a title for the new album yet? Matt: Yes, the title is going to be Ascendancy.

Who Is … ILLDISPOSED

Posted on February 12, 2008

Name? Jakob Batten Age? 27 Instrument? Lead guitar All time favourite record? Metal: Megadeth: Rust In Peace Non-metal: A-ha: Scoundrel Days Greatest experience on tour? Probably when I banged some groupie in a hotel room somewhere in Germany. The room had 3 beds, in the bed to the right of me was the girl I nailed earlier that day asleep. In the bed to the left was Mr. Bo Summer í¢ä‰åäóì talking dirty to me and telling me what I should do to the groupie. Most horrible experience on tour? We headlined a festival in the Czech Republic. I got extremely drunk on low-budget-vodka and fell asleep. I was thrown out of bed 20 minutes before our show and I couldn’t stand up. I vomitted twice on stage and we played our worst show ever. People there were pissed off. In a way it wasn’t horrible, it was pretty funny í¢ä‰åäóì at least afterwards. Most embarrassing moment that ever happened to you on stage? Playing in a blue dress with flowers on it in Berlin. It was so short that the audience could see everything. And I guess I’m not the biggest animal in the forest….. Do you have any sort of ritual before going on stage? Nope, just the beers and the booze. With which band would you love to tour with and why? That girl band who have sex with their fans. Don’t remember the name of the band, but maybe I’d get lucky. If I wouldn t be a musician, I would work as… Nude photographer Best advice you ever heard? Cut your hair í¢ä‰åäóì you look like David Crockett. With which famous person (alive or dead) would you love to spend some time and why? Someone with heavy hooters and a wide behind. Maybe that new Russian tennis babe í¢ä‰åäóì if she had some implants first. Last Words: Buy our new album í¢ä‰åäóì It rocks more than anything ever rocked before!!!!!!

Nothing’s Wrong

Posted on February 12, 2008

MVWire.com is reporting that director Joe Lynch is creating yet another amazing video in the form of DevilDriver’s “Nothing’s Wrong”. Winner of the “Filmmaker of the Year” in the Village Voice (Best of Long Island edition, 1999) for his horror shorts “mAHABRA” and “hiBeams”, Joe is known for his morbid, devious, and hilarious sense of humor, which he applies liberally to his videos. The video for “Nothing’s Wrong” takes place in the band’s rehearsal space in Santa Barbara, chosen “to simply capture the band in their elementí¢ä‰åŒ_ purely letting the music take over.” Joe described the shoot day as being “hot, cramped, sweaty as heck but fun as hell!” The video features an energetic atmosphere that is complemented by festive lighting Joe’s patented epilepti-cam, and includes almost 600 different camera angles. The focus was on the energy created by the band, and Joe describes the experience as being reminiscent of the effect that would be created if one were to put a firecracker in a mailbox. Paired with DevilDriver’s intense and explosive sound, this music video gets everything right. The band have posted some ‘Making Of’ video clips on their official site HERE.

Machine Head Anniversary Show Reviewed

Posted on February 12, 2008

As mentioned previously, Auguest 8th marked the 10 year anniversary of the release of the Machine Head album ‘Burn My Eyes’, and in honour the guys did a special show in Philadelphia, playing the entire album from start to end. Below is a review of the night, from the band’s official messageboard, written by ‘Shun Fist’. “This show was unbelievable, i cannot express how lucky i felt to be there as a fan of 7 years to witness something so awesome. There are so many reasons why MH are so special to so many people, maybe its that fact that unlike most of their peers of ten years past, they can still deliver the same caliber performance they did when they first entered in the heavy metal scene, or maybe it’s the honesty and sincerity the band has always had with their fans. Or probably the most obvious would have to be the great music they put out, either way “MH’s the best, that’s the point”. Their opening music was Realize, Real Eyes, Real Lies, which the band didn’t play but it came through the PA. But then they did something i’ve only heard through many upon many bootlegs. They did they ol’school desire to fire intro into Davidian, needless to say the shit hit the fan. Some people got it, some people didnt but that was okay, i guess you just had to be that kind of fan to understand. They ripped into Old, then of course into A thousand Lies which came out so awesome. None But My Own was a little off key, unfortunately one of Robbs strings wasnt tuned correctly, you might see/hear that on the dvd. Oh yeah on that note i saw about 4 or 5 people shooting the set from all angles so if you pray hard we might get that dvd we’ve all been waiting for. Back to the subject, NBMO came out great. Then one of my all time favs the Rage to Overcome, it was monstrous! McClain made the drums sound gigantic and i still can hear a whole bunch of people saying “holy shit” including myself. Following the order, Death Church was heavy beyond all hell we all know where that one went. The only time ive heard Nation on fire was when they played it during the TBR tour and they cut the heavy part out. It was really awesome to hear the full version. Blood for Blood was awesome, i should mention Phil did a lot of improvs on the solos which were definitely cool and Robb was on target with his. Im your god now was flawless and they did a few covers with Mark Hunter from Chimaira on stage including Creeping Death, Walk, Livewire and one more i think. Closed the set off with Block of course and shit you had to see all four of those dudes in a group hug on stage, very emotional for those dudes and Im so happy for those guys. Thank You Machine Head for an amazing night, you guys are amazing.”
