Following on from his absence from DEVILDRIVER’S recent mainland Europe dates, bassist Jon Miller has posted the following update on the band’s Official Website today to update the band’s fans on why he wont be on their forthcoming dates in the first few months of 2011.
To all DevilDriver fans and friends, I wanted to give you an update on my status as far as my health is concerned.
Regarding the past 2 European tours, I was either forced to leave by my own accord or asked to leave by my band/managment.
I have been touring with DevilDriver for almost the past ten years and the drugs and alcohol have finally caught up with me. I realized this when I ended up in the ICU on my birthday last week. I need to make a change so that I can save my own life and keep the friends that I still have left. I know that alot of DevilDriver fans seek me out first as the one to party with because I consider myself a very social person who is quite outgoing, personable and friendly.
That was all fun in my 20’s touring with the band, but as I am entering my early 30’s I can feel the damage catching up with me mentally and physically. I don’t want to burn out prematurely before my time on this Earth is up.
On January 1st I will be entering an intense rehabilitation program in order for me to reclaim my health and the person who I once was.
I will not be doing the Canadian tour in January or the Australian tour in February and March. This is for my own good. I need to come out of rehab with a sound body and mind. After I complete my rehabilitation I hope to see all DevilDriver friends and family as soon as I can.
Much love to you all.
Jonathan Miller

How many people can you fit in a German phone booth? 4 band members and a competition winner seem do-able? No? Well you’d be wrong! Check out this awesome footage of a Berlin competition winner as he joins his favourite band ROYAL REPUBLIC in a phone booth for a performance. It’s pretty darn special!

We all take the festive experience as a given- it will be cold, but generally not white on the day we want it to be. We’ll eat the big dinner with all the trimmings. There will be a clementine in our stockings and a lot of wine will be consumed. Except it isn’t actually that way for everyone- take AIRBOURNE for example. Being from Australia, their experience of Christmas is a little different…
Click on the player below to see Joel and Roadsy tell us what they think should be in Christmas stockings this year and what the Australian Christmas is like. You’ll also hear about their first snowy Christmas experience when they were in Germany last year…
Current album No Guts. No Glory is in stores now. Buy online at Play.com and iTunes.
Following on from yesterday’s chat with Max Cavalera, today we talk to MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel as part of our 30th Anniversary celebrations to get his take on the best moments of the past 30 years and what he feels the next 30 will hold…
In 30 years you will be…
I will be golfing and playing in a cover band up in Lake Tahoe. Retired and enjoying the fortune my son has earned as a professional anything-he-wants-to-be.
Best music moment of the last 30 years.
Seeing Randy Rhoads twice w/Ozzy in the early 80’s. Witnessing Metallica grow from local clubs into one of the biggest bands in the world, firsthand. Headlining the Wacken festival in front of 85,000 people and then being whisked away by private plane to play w/Metallica and NIN at Knebworth the next day and killing it at both shows. Maybe the two best Machine Head performances since I joined the band in 2003.
Crappiest moment in music in the last 30 years.
Losing Randy Rhoads so early in his career. Especially the way it happened. So sad.
Album from your generation that will be legendary in 30 years.
Metallica- Black Album (Self-Titled) and Guns and Roses – Appetite for Destruction
Roadrunner classic album.
Sepultura – Arise What makes it a classic? Such a fusion of so many genres of music. So brutal and very influential on Machine Head. A very important record.
Machine Head are currently working on their seventh studio album pencilled for release on Roadrunner Records in 2011.
Latest album – The Blackening– is available in all good stores now.
On last night’s Radio 1 Rock Show, Daniel P Carter sat down for a chin-wag with our very own SLASH!!
On the show, Dan talks to Slash about the his current album Slash and about the brilliant year he’s had. “This has been a great year,” Slash tells Dan, admitting that when it came to his new album, “…getting all of these great artists together and having that actually work, in hindsight, that was a project that could have been a disastrous failure!”
He also talks about the tour which he describes as “grueling but awesome” and putting the band together with label-mate Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. He talks about the version of ‘Paradise City’ he recorded with Cypress Hill and Fergie, which was featured as a bonus track and the reaction to it of the fans which leading him to realize for the first time how much of an “institution” the band had become and the expectations that his legacy put on him when it came to releasing his current album- his first solo outing.
If you CLICK HERE, you can re-play the whole of last night’s Rock Show. If you would like to listen to only the Slash interview, fast-forward to 35 mins in, sit back and enjoy.
The latest issue of RHYTHM
Sharon Den Adel, vocalist with WITHIN TEMPTATION, has revealed that ‘Where Is The Edge’, the new track which the band revealed last week, doesn’t give the full picture re forthcoming album ‘The Unforgiving.
In a post on the band’s Official Website, Sharon writes: “From the moment we started writing this album we felt it was time for change, to take a bigger step in our musical development then we’ve done with the last two albums…’The Unforgiving’ is the album with the most diversity between the songs then ever before. Containing the heaviest riffs we’ve ever played, lots of uptempo moments, guitar-solo’s, but at the same time also some of the most catchy stuff ever.”
Sharon goes on to reveal that the band plan to share more music with the world pretty soon, “Soon we’ll release ‘”The Unforgiving Video-Trailer” containing parts of different songs, the music video’s and… (more about this 3rd ingredient laterrr)…” she teases.
