This week sees THE PARLOR MOB‘s vocalist Mark Melicia take the iPod challenge. Some pretty interesting tracks here…
Genius Next Door by Regina Spektor
This song is off ‘Far’, Regina Spektor’s latest record. She is one most talented singer/songwriter out there in my opinion. This particular track is melodically beautiful and intelligent. ‘Far’ was one of the rare records i made a point to purchase on the day it came out.
How’s Forever Been Baby by Elvis Perkins
Another one of my favorite new songwriters, Elvis Perkins is quite a talent. Pretty lyrics and melodies over saloon folk styled instrumentation. Two of my favorite records released in the last five years are his ‘Ash Wednesday’ and his latest ‘Elvis Perkins in Dearland’.
Seven Days by Bob Dylan
This is the live track from the Bootleg Series, which I have never actually heard a studio recording of. Perfect example of Dylan being an amazing human. Sounds like the most bad ass bar band you could ever see. One of my favorite and most influential artists of all time. There is a Dylan song for any emotion.
Building Up Your Shelter by Micheal Melicia
This song is by my little brother Micheal (or Old Scrappy as the rest of the P Mob calls him). He is fresh as hell and on the come up so watch out for the kid. Super honest and genuine lyrics and charmingly innocent melodies. This is one of my favorite songs to fall asleep to. I’m quite the proud older brother.
The Partisan by Leonard Cohen
This song is a cover of a french resistance song by Anna Marly and Emmanuel d’Astier. It is extremley powerful and beautiful song. The way it was recorded sets the perfect mood for the subject matter. The Partisan appears on Cohen’s album ‘Songs From A Room’. I recently saw Cohen perform at Radio City Musical Hall and he was unbelievable.
The Parlor Mob were recently nominated in the Best New Band category in this years Classic Rock Awards and their debut album AND YOU WERE A CROW also gained a nomination in Best Album (alongside such artists as AC/DC and Metallica). Winners announced soon!
You can pick up AND YOU WERE A CROW online AT THIS LOCATION.
