THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA ANNOUNCE UK TOUR FOR FEBRUARY 2012!

Posted on November 25, 2011

Armed with what Metal Hammer called the band’s “most ferocious release to date”, rising metalcore darlings, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA are set to return to the UK for their own headline tour, the “Vans Off The Wall Music Tour Presents THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA’s Dead Throne Tour UK.” The dates are in support of “Dead Throne”, the band’s first album for Roadrunner, which was hailed as an uncompromising release, marking the Ohio six-piece turning a corner and taking confident steps to the next level. It charted at No. 10 in the Billboard 200 charts. Rock Sound gave it 9/10 and commented “Dead Throne is accomplished, deft and unbelievably powerful from start to finish. It will flummox few, intrigue many and cement The Devil Wears Prada’s reputation as a band that are most definitely capable of greatness.”

It has not been quiet on the tour front either, TDWP have racked up multiple European and UK tours already this year, including a main stage appearance at Download Festival and a tour with Bring Me The Horizon. They are currently headlining major markets in the US and Canada with support acts Enter Shikari, Whitechapel, and For Today.

The 12 date tour kicks off in Cardiff and ends at Camden Underworld in London. Support acts are still to be announced. Tickets go on sale Friday November 25th. Kerrang recently described “Dead Throne” as, “bursting with riffs that would turn your insides to mush”.

BLACK STONE CHERRY INTERVIEW WITH BEN WELLS UP ON RUSHONROCKí¢ä‰å䋢S WEBSITEí¢ä‰åŒ_

Posted on November 25, 2011

BLACK STONE CHERRY are currently touring the UK with label mates ALTER BRIDGE and THEORY OF A DEADMAN. Whilst on the road, rushonrock editor Simon Rushworth caught up with BLACK STONE CHERRY guitarist Ben Wells to ask him how it’s going, what fans can expect, how to maintain longecvity in a band and much more. Check out some extracts below:

rushonrock: Black Stone Cherry celebrates its 10th anniversary this year – are you still going strong?

Ben Wells: We’ve been going for a decade but I think we’re as strong as we’ve always been. I think the bond’s become stronger over the years because we’ve learnt so much more about each other. We’ve become so much closer after spending so many years on the road together. As a band we’re still in it to win it.

rushonrock: It’s rare for the original line-up to be together for so long – what’s the secret?

Ben Wells: We don’t let anything get between us. We don’t let drugs or money or all of that stupid stuff come between us. First and foremost we’re friends and we love making music together. We split everything evenly and there are no egos. No one person has ever become bigger than the rest or bigger than the band and I don’t see that changing.

rushonrock: You’re veterans when it comes to playing with the biggest names in rock but how’s it been going with Alter Bridge?

Ben Wells: So far the tour with Alter Bridge has been going great. Those guys are some of the best dudes we’ve ever toured with – both the band and their crew are awesome. We all hang out together on days off and have fun together.

rushonrock: And is Myles Kennedy the best rock singer in the world right now?

Ben Wells: Myles Kennedy is such a talented guy. He’s an incredible singer and he’s surrounded by great musicians. We learn from all of the bands we play with and it’s been no different on this tour. That’s another reason why we’re still here and still making music. We don’t think we’re too cool to learn.

rushonrock: Has it become more difficult identifying the perfect BSC setlist now there’s another critically acclaimed album to throw into the mix?

Ben Wells: The setlist this time out is a good mix of all three albums. It’s a good, rocking set. It’s always been tough to pick the perfect BSC setlist but with every new album that task becomes even tougher. The big songs will always be there and it’s a case of picking the best of the rest.

ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE’S TOP 100 GREATEST GUITARISTS OF ALL TIME – FEATURING RUSH’S ALEX LIFESON AND SLASH!

Posted on November 24, 2011

Rolling Stone magazine have compiled a list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of all time and in amongst that list are RUSH‘s Alex Lifeson (nr 98) and axewielder SLASH (nr 65). As well as listing the top 100 guitarists, they invited other musicians to speak about their favourite guitarists and MASTODON‘s Brent Hinds was aksed to contribute his thoughts on number 25 on the list, Tony Iommi:

“I remember the first time I heard Black Sabbath. My older brother got their album Master of Reality from a kid who lived next door, and we’d been passing it around like it was crack. We were playing it with the lights down and a candle burning, when my dad burst into the room. He was like, “What is this shit?” Then he broke the record right in front of us. But the music had just struck me like lightning. I truly enter the Iommi-sphere every time I put a guitar on. Tony is a metal pioneer, but there’s a real finesse to his playing; it’s not all that fast. His phrasing has such a classic vibe, and I draw a lot of inspiration from Tony’s trilling.

I injured myself at a Black Sabbath reunion concert in 1999. During “Snowblind”, we were all holding each other, and then we fell over and I hit a chair and broke my ribs. I was like, “Fuck, it hurts so bad, but I don’t want to leave. I have to keep watching Tony play!”

The top 10 guitarists from the list can be seen below:

10 Pete Townshend
9 Duane Allman
8 Eddie Van Halen
7 Chuck Berry
6 B.B. King
5 Jeff Beck
4 Keith Richards
3 Jimmy Page
2 Eric Clapton
1 Jimi Hendrix

Is there anyone you think is missing that they should have been included? Head on over to our Facebook page by clicking here and let us know what YOU think!

GOJIRA INTERVIEWED BY METALSUCKS.NET…

Posted on November 24, 2011

MetalSucks.net interviewed Joe and Mario Duplantier of French metal titans GOJIRA recently and they talked about what the two brothers hope to achieve with their debut album with Roadrunner Records that they are currently recording, how their music has evolved over time, what poeple can expect from the new material and much more.

“Personally, I had a vision of this album, with what I would like to see happening,” says Joe Duplantier. “I was imagining something very organic and very deep, with more natural sounds. Music-wise, it’s something like a dream and a storm… it’s magical. I had this vision with colors, sounds and shapes in my mind. I almost dreamed about it. ‘Wow, I feel like this album is going to be like that.’ But I didn’t know.

There are so many different perspectives and points of views. For us, the way that we see it is we really needed a platform for the band to be promoted and distributed properly. We’ve been in touch with a lot of labels lately since we finished our contract with Listenable [who released the band’s three previous albums]. To go on with Listenable was not an option, even though we had excellent relations with them. We really needed a bigger platform, and Roadrunner offered us an am amazing deal. They have been super into the band for years and years. They have been… I would not say “chasing us,” but… well, I would say “chasing us,” but they would say “interested”.
