It’s the start of the Chimaira Pure Hatred tour, and we asked Chris, to write a report every single day they are on the road. And these are his first entries…. January 31st í¢äåäóì Feb 1st : Flight/BBC I just realized how much I hate flying. It’s not that I’m scared of a huge wreck, it’s the hassle. We all met at about 12:30 est. at Hopkins Intl Airport in Cleveland. We departed from Cleveland and landed in Newark a few hours later. The two-hour layover went by fast because I discovered the airport had high speed wireless internet. Blah, blah, blahí¢äå_ The flight was ok. I killed my time playing Prince of Persia for Gameboy Advance and rocking the iPOD. The others bought a bottle of Absolut and killed it before we landed. My seat was too far away to partake in the fun. The flight lasted about 7 hours and we landed at 6:30am. This same day we had to record 4 songs for BBC Radio. It’s odd a metal band like us gets to do this so the opportunity is an honor. This was Ricky Evansand’s, our new drummer, first performance with us outside of the rehearsal room. Everything went smooth and we got done tracking the songs fairly quick. The cover song came out better than I thought it would. Eventually we finished up there and headed to the truck stop where I am now typing this nonsense. I haven’t slept in over a day. Good Nightí¢äå_ Feb 2nd: Oxford I woke up way too early. My usual sleeping pattern is going to bed at 4am and waking in the afternoon. Last night I passed out before midnight and woke up around 7am. I then headed into the truck stop for a shower. Sorry to trail offí¢äå_let me start off by explaining American truck stops. Chimaira’s personal favorite is the Flying J. In a Flying J you can find a good restaurant, high speed internet, a good selection of tour junk, snacks, and clean showers. You pay $7 and you get a bathroom suite to yourself for however long it takes you to get clean. Not the case over hereí¢äå_. The shower I found was the free stall at the end of the bathroom hallway. I walk in to find the opposite of a Flying J. Scum and grime everywhere and a soaked/pube filled floor. After not showering for two days this was my only choice. On goes the jager flip-flops and into the shower I go. Later in the day we had our first instore signing of the tour. Only odd object I remember signing was some tiny skull. We were allowed to take two cds. I took the new Lostprophets and Cradle of Filth’s latest. Tonight was Ricky’s first live gig with Chimaira. Everything went well and the crowd loved him. The drum solo left jaws on the floor. Afterwards we celebrated the sold out gig with rounds of Absinth. The night went blurry from there. more to come….
