As you may know, London’s legendary venue The Astoria has closed pending demolition to make way for the new cross-rail development. It will be mourned by many. This web ed is one of those folks who has had many a killer night watching amazing bands in that venue: Slipknot, Airbourne, Chimaira, Kids In Glass Houses, Machine Head, DragonForce, Killswitch Engage, DevilDriver, Gojira, Nine Inch Nails, HIM, My Chemical Romance… not to mention the miles run up and down the stairs (oh the many many stairs!) backstage ushering journalists, DJ’s and band members around. And the staggering up and down them…oh the staggering…post show. It’s a venue that was infamous for an amazing vibe and fun times. A venue that many a punter enjoyed going to and that many a band enjoyed, nay aspired to, playing.

ROCKSOUND spoke to some such artists for a feature on their website recently, and two of these were SLIPKNOT’S>/a> Paul Gray and KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES’ Aled Philips.

The mighty LAMB OF GOD have added another headline show to their run of dates in February. The show, which will be at Sheffield Corporation on the 17th of February, is a headline show at the end of the Metal Hammer Defenders Of The Faith tour which they co-headline with Dimmu Borgir.

TRIVIUM gave thier fan club members a sneak preview of their new video today and tomorrow

Once you have the album done, there is no time to sit back and chillax, as the latest update from MADINA LAKE goes to show. One of the first things a band has to do is get to work on the promo shots that the label will use around the release in the press and online, and in this, the latest in a series of updates from the guys, you can check them out at their photo shoot.

The shots from this shoot will be used around the release of the album ATTICS TO EDEN, the bands follow up to their debut ‘From Them, Through Us, To You’ which hits stores on APRIL 27th.

Members of LAMB OF GOD were in the UK recently to push their upcoming release WRATH (out on the 23rd FEBRUARY), and you can read one of the interviews they undertook online NOW at ROOMTHIRTEEN.COM…

“The five of us, we’re all there when we’re writing songs, sometimes Randy isn’t but all musicians are, and we all have a very high expectation of ourselves and each other. It’s very tough to get something past all five of us; something has to be very good to get all the way round the room. This is especially so now as our career gets longer and we have a number of albums behind us, we’re always wanting to evolve and push ourselves, so not only are we filtering each other very heavy-handedly, but we have a back catalogue and we can’t allow any of that back in either. So it gets very narrow and very strict, and I think this album, certainly has the most aggressive, but some of the strongest material we’ve ever done.”

CAMP FREDDY, the Los Angeles-based “jam” band featuring Dave Navarro (ex-JANE’S ADDICTION, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), Billy Morrison (ex-THE CULT bassist, current CIRCUS DIABLO vocalist), Matt Sorum (VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N’ ROSES), Donovan Leitch (son of legendary folk singer Donovan), and Chris Chaney (JANE’S ADDICTION, ALANIS MORRISETTE) performed at this years Sundance Festival on Jan 19th and amongst the guests performing was none other than SLIPKNOT’S Corey Taylor, who took up the vocals on a cover of Billy Idol’s ‘Rebel Yell’.
