Slipknot will play their first concert in South Korea this coming November. This highly anticipated gig will finally take place after the cancellation of original date in early February. Fans in South Korea previously had to travel to Japan to see the group perform in concert, and this first gig in Seoul, South Korea is expected to be a monster rock event. “Women and the physically weak are being advised to take the upper seat sections, allowing the standing section to be filled with men and foreigners living in South Korea,” according to a posting on the Korean fan site SlipknotMania.com. Tickets go on sale on September 20.
Something for the weekend for you – lots and lots of brand new Caliban photos taken at the very recent video shoot by Larissa, from our German office! Shot in a bunker in Berlin, did you know… Check them out in the band’s PHOTO GALLERY.
A quick update direct from Trivium’s world, written a couple days ago on Aug 30th… “Matt here in Denver! Tonight can be summed up in two words: ‘Fucking amazing!! ‘We played at the Gothic Theater – and man lemme tell you… it was mind blowing. People were non-stop with fists, moshing, singing along, and screaming their heads off. It looks like we have found another hometown added to the list. So to you all in Denver : ‘Hell fucking yeah…’ I think there’s only like 6 more shows left – and with that… I’ll see you all soon!” Since our last update the Road Rage tour has taken us to Texas, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico & Arizona. We will end this tour with 4 shows in California (last show @ The House of Blues in Anaheim , September 5th). The support from the fans has been great, we’ve played mostly new material on this tour & the response has been insane pits, moshing and good times all around – thanks to all those who gave us a chance and enjoyed our sets and those we got to meet so far during this tour, it has been a great experience. In two weeks we will begin recording our debut Roadrunner Records CD. We will be heading to the legendary MorrisSound Recording Studios to lay down Travis’s drum tracks and then we are off to work once again with Jason Suecof at AudioHammer Studios to record and mix everything else. We are working out the details for final mastering and it may involve a trip to the UK. We are very excited about getting into the studio and look forward to getting these sessions started. We have been getting a number of emails for guitar tabs, well, we don’t have all of our music í¢äåñtabbedí¢äå out í¢äåäóì we do have some songs í¢äåñtabbedí¢äå and while they may not be totally complete with solos and all we will see what we can do about posting them in the near future. We will get something up as soon as we can after the tour. Thanks m/ Travis, Paolo, Corey & Matt
Detroit area photographer Christopher Chouinard took some great photos of the Dirty Americans at their recent show at the Post Bar in Mt. Clemens, MI. You can check out those photos and all of his other great photography here: www.fotogink.com.
How quickly time flies. Before you know it, Autumn will be upon us and this summer will be all but memories…and the US installment of the Road Rage Tour – that’s Machine Head, Chimaira, and Trivium – will be over. Luckily, some of you’ll have mementos (and memories from the shows) to take with you. Speaking of which, Did You Know? Did you know that the bands on the tour have been grilling on the BBQ most every day on the Road Rage Tour? True. In fact, they all chipped in and bought Chef Duce (yes, Adam Duce, bassist of Machine Head) a well deserved apron. You can check out pics of Chef Duce from one of the latest Urban BBQs HERE. Too fuckin’ good…
Currently Thornley is wrapping up a few dates in Canada. Last night (Sept 2) was at the Foundation Nite Club in East Barrie, ONT (approx 3 hours away from where the band calls home) and tomorrow night is a show in Montreal (also 3 hours away from home, but in the opposite direction). Since returning to Canada after their most recent US tour travels, the band has had the pleasure of playing Ottawa for the second time over the course of the past nine months…and for some reason, they swear by it. Seems that is the one venue where the sound is always great onstage and out front…where the band is always healthy…where all band members are on the top of their game. “These shows are usually few and far between,” tells bassist Worm. “There is almost always one of the four band members who has something going on – tech issues, head not in the game, bad phone call earlier, something. For some reason Ottawa seems to have taken these distractions and boxed them up allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the show.” Amen. God bless the nation’s capital. Other Thornley briefs: – Sekou is in the September US issue of DRUM! magazine (Elvin Jones is on the cover) – Worm is experimenting with a 12 string bass. – Tavis got new kicks – the Fiddler’s Green on Cambridge, Ontario (where the band played Sept 1) is haunted by a ghost named Emily. Apparently, true. – It looks like Thornley will be returning to the states shortly. It is likely the band will be touring stateside with Breaking Benjamin starting later this month. For more details on the times of Thornley, check out the band’s website at www.thornleyband.com.
A piece from the Winnipeg Sun… Killswitch Engage By Rob Williams Monday, 8 p.m., West End Cultural Centre There was a time when heavy metal bands were all about leather, spikes and Satan. Not anymore. Oh sure, there are still plenty of groups thrashing out and singing about warlocks, Greek mythology and demons, but these days there’s a new breed of beast on the scene: emo-metal bands like Killswitch Engage. “I feel a lot of bands don’t know if they’re happy, sad or what — they just go out and put on the metal face,” says KE bassist Mike D’Antonio. “We don’t go out and pretend to be pissed off or mad — we smile on stage and have fun. “Our lyrics are swayed towards the positive side, and lots of metal bands are like, ‘I hate my life, I hate myself,’ and put on the airs. We’re breaking that mode. I take pride in that.” The Massachusetts quintet never considered themselves an emo band until they were given the tag in reviews in the New York Times and Rolling Stone. Instead of distancing themselves from it, as many punk bands do, they went with it. “It’s kind of cool because we’ve never thought of ourselves at all like that,” D’Antonio, 31, says. Their new album, The End of Heartache, is a roller-coaster ride of personal stories written by vocalist Howard Jones and touching on issues of relationships, dead friends and the struggle for self-improvement. The band’s sound and lyrics have touched a nerve with metal-buying youth. Since the album was released in May, it has sold more than 100,000 copies, and the band have been selling out shows wherever they play. Their profile will get an even bigger push in the next couple of weeks, when the title track of their new album is released as the first single from the movie Resident Evil: Apocalypse. “It’s been really crazy. I’m expecting to wake up from this dream any minute. I’m a kid used to playing CFW halls and basement shows and the whole hardcore thing, so I want to say to my parents, ‘See! look!’ ” D’Antonio laughs.
“REAL METAL IS BACK!” exclaims the first line of HitThePit’s review of 3 Inches Of Blood’s debut, Advance And Vanquish. Yes, the first review on this title is in, and it goes exactly like this: REAL METAL IS BACK! As you get older you find that everything that was once good, always comes back again. Thus is the case with 3 Inches Of Blood’s sound. With Iron Maiden, Dream Theatre, Judas Priest, and Queensryche stepping into the twilight of their careers, it is only fitting that 3 Inches Of Blood would step into the spotlight and make the metal circle complete! Technical, thrashy, slaying, evil, war obsessed, these are all words to describe the band. And let me tell you about Cam Pipes! (yep…it is his real name) CAM PIPES? Are you kidding? Is that not a rock star name or what? It almost a better name then Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson! And vocally, he hits high notes that makes you wonder if he has wild berries for nuts. Not to mention that the best part of Mr. Pipes is not in fact his pipes, but his mind. Try some of these classic lyrics on for size: “Flash of iron, leather, spikes and swords. Mighty warriors with metal on their side. Enemies of metal, death is our reward!” – Deadly Sinners “Deceivers flesh ripped off his wretched bones. REVENGE! Revenge is a vulture, his head placed on a pike for all to see. A lesson learned for all of the usurpers to the throne!” – Revenge Is A Vulture “Flaming arrows from the sky, the massacre begins. Order turns to chaos, no hope to win! The tyrant is here to take up your throne, he’ll take your head before taking your crown.” HA! Fucking awesome! Old school metal right there kiddies! Blazing guitar solos, lighting fast licks, musically 3IOB is a fret board extravaganza. Meanwhile Cam is a sick fuck that can sing with the legends! If you like the before mentioned bands, then this is a record you must have. I would also be remiss if I did not mention Neil Kernon and Colin Richardson, who constructed the perfect sound for these retro lunatics! Pit Scale: 10, when Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest retire….they can do so at peace knowing that these Vancouver youngins will hold up their established metal ideals. Also, I hope they keep the warrior (that holds the 3 Axe) from the cover for future efforts…… utilize him the way Megadeth does with Vic, and Iron Maiden does with Eddie! My request to the band…..call your axe wielding warrior Maximillion…or Max for short! Keep the metal traditions alive! Suggested Tracks: All of them! Dungeons & Dragons nerds right on through to hardcore junkies will respect this effort! Instant Classic! Track Listing: 01) Fear On The Bridge (Upon The Boiling Sea I) 02) Deadly Sinners 03) Revenge Is A Vulture 04) Dominion Of Deceit 05) Premonition Of Pain 06) Lord Of The Storm (Upon The Boiling Sea II) 07) Wykydtron 08) Swordmaster 09) Axes Of Evil 10) Crazy Nights 11) Destroy The Orcs 12) The Phantom Of The Crimson Cloak 13) Isle Of Eternal Despair (Upon The Boiling Sea III)
