Stop The Clock!

Posted on February 12, 2008

Nickelback’s “Breathe”, a track from their previous release The State, will be featured in both the movie and soundtrack to the upcoming Clockstoppers. Premise of this movie? As the title may give away, a teenager accidentally activates a machine that enables him to make time stand still. Chilling. Riveting. Actually, one of the coolest things to be able to do, agree? Presuming that along with stopping time, people stopped too…unless you chose otherwise. Imagine the possibilities. Imagine.

Nickelback At The Juno’s

Posted on February 12, 2008

A year ago at this time, Nickelback was nominated under the category of Best New Group at the 2001 Canadian Juno Awards. One year later for the 2002 annual Canadian Juno Awards, Canada’s equivalent to the Grammy’s, Nickelback is in contention under four categories – Best Album, Best Group, Best Single, and Best Rock Album. What a difference a year can make… The music contingency of Canada will be crawling out of the woodwork for this year’s Juno Awards Show, as NICKELBACK, Sum 41, Alanis Morissette, Nelly Furtado, Diana Krall, Amanda Marshall, and Great Big Sea have been announced as performers for the upcoming ceremony, with a few more performers expected to be announced in the days ahead. For this show, which will take place April 14th at Mile One Stadium in St Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador, let’s wish the boys in Nickelback all the best. random fact – last year’s Juno Awards took place on March 4th, a full month earlier than this year’s ceremony. It’s true. random fact – also nominated, Randy Staub. Randy, who mixed the Silver Side Up release, is nominated for Best Recording Engineer for his work on “How You Remind Me” and “Too Bad”. It’s true. More info on the Juno Awards can be found online at www.junos.sympatico.ca

‘Back With Cantrell

Posted on February 12, 2008

Last night in Calgary at the Calgary Stampede Corral, Nickelback’s show offered more of a surprise than just the pyro and lights we’ve been talking about – Jerry Cantrell joined Nickelback on stage for a song, together they played “It Ain’t Like That” from Alice In Chains’ Facelift. More? Since the reaction was apparently astounding last night and Jerry is still hangin with the band, word has it he will be making an encore performance with Nickelback tonight (Jan 25) in Edmonton at the Skyreach Centre. The song to be played? As of now, we hear that “Rooster” is on tap. If you can’t believe what you are missing, no worries – you are probably not aware, but there are plans going around on talks for putting together a Nickelback DVD. Tonight’s show in Edmonton is actually being shot, and this is just the kind of thing that should be on a DVD…

Random Nickelback Facts #6-8

Posted on February 12, 2008

Random Fact – have Nickelback become bad boys? According to Hofstra University, the answer is ‘yes’…Nickelback has been naughty, naughty boys…Read the news story titled “Nickelback: The Banning At Hofstra University”, which can be found at www.SonicMonk.com. Special thanks to Matt at SonicMonk.com for the scoop. Random Fact – onto show reviews of the Canadian tour. This first one comes from Tim W., and it goes like this: “Hello, I just went to both Nickelback shows last week in Victoria BC, and I have to say that they were amazing. Those were Nickelback shows #5 and 6 for me, as they have been my favorite band for a couple of years. The new set looks great, with the pyrotechnics looking like they came straight out of an old Kiss concert.” Yes, there was more in his message, but KISS? Very cool comparison. Thanks for the line Tim. Our second review comes from Ed S. of Salmon Arm, BC. He writes the following: “Hey guys, I just wanted to say that I saw the show in Kelowna on the 20th, and it was fuckin killer!! the pryos were amazing, sound was great, and the energy was out of this world…nickelback was amazing. Lots of bands talk about how they were fans of the music, and how they stood in line, etc., but these guys actually made me believe it. The acoustic encore leading into “remind” was a great bit, and the two new songs, “next contender” and “mistake” were album ready, if you ask me. The best part though??? this was the first time i’ve ever seen someone smash a guitar live. Chad, you are a god. Thanks, nickelback, for the return of the rock.” Thanks for the line Ed. Respect The Rock. Random Fact – so, we’re tinkering around with the idea of putting guitar tablature on our website. Like the idea? We have been checking out a couple sites to see how others do it. Check this out – at www.GuitarTabs.cc, Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me” is the #1 most popular track…in front of “Stairway To Heaven” for crying out loud. It’s true.

Nickelback On Planet Rock

Posted on February 12, 2008

Check out a fantastic feature online at PlanetRock. Remember that acoustic show Nickelback did in Australia a bit back? Well, music and interview audio from the show is now being featured at www.PlanetRock.com.au (the ‘.au’ is for Australia). Just follow the “FEATURES” section and look for the Nickelback pic. Earlier this morning (Jan 15) a few semi trucks met right outside the capital of British Columbia. What was in these trucks? Sound equipment which came from Vegas, a light system which came from Orlando, and pyro & stage sets which came from L.A. Add all of these together and you get the new Nickelback stage show which will be unveiled during their imminent Canadian tour. Nickelback’s road manager Chief tells “it’s 5 times bigger a light show than our previous run of the U.S.” Damn, if you saw the U.S. tour run, that was a show…Chief continues, “the guys from Pantera and Godsmack will be doing our pyro.” Welcome to the new Nickelback show. All the trucks drove onto ferries this morning, to make the trip into Victoria, the capital of BC, the location for the first two dates of the Canadian tour. Today, tonight, and tomorrow afternoon will consist of band rehearsals with the new gear for the new stage show. Tomorrow night (Jan 16), their show is open for viewing.

How You Remind Me (out as a single here on Feb 25) was officially NUMBER ONE in the US Top 100 singles chart according to Billboard! How long for? Three weeks, including Christmas week. In fact, Christmas week, the band sold over 400,000 copies (yes, nearly half a million copies in one week) of Silver Side Up in the US alone!! Definitely no turkey there.

Random Nickelback Facts #2-5

Posted on February 12, 2008

Random Fact – Sex & Rock-n-Roll, perfect together. It’s true. Well, Playboy has a Sex & Rock-n-Roll lifestyle website. It’s true. AND, about a month back, Nickelback was interviewed for the site. You can watch all 11 퉌_ minutes of the goods online at www.SexnRocknRoll.com. A young lady by the name of Jessica, Miss October 1996, hosts the interview. It is pool side, and she looks great. In response to the last question during the interview when Jessica asks where the band sees themselves in five years, Chad aptly replies, “(we) always have been and always will be a rock band.” Respect The Rock Random Fact – we previously told that “How You Remind Me” spent 13 consecutive weeks at #1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart. Did You Know? Those 13 weeks at #1 tied The Rolling Stone’s record of 13 weeks at #1 with the track “Start Me Up”. It’s true. Nickelback’s song “How You Remind Me” has reached new heights once again. In the Billboard Hot 100 last week the track went over the 120 Million mark in audience, becoming the first Rock track in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to surpass the 120 million listener barrier. Take a second to comprehend what you just read…the previous rock track to hold the record was from Santana with the song “Smooth”, which peaked at 116 million in December of 1999. Also, receiving 8774 spins last week has officially broken the all time one week spin total which was previously set by…are you ready for this…the divas doing “Moulin Rouge” (Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil Kim and Mya) last year. Tides they are a turning…respect the rock… Random Fact – God Help Us All…we rec’d an email last night from Sidney…you might remember her from previous Random Facts. Well, she hipped us to something new – Nickelback’s first EP, Hesher, was just sold for over $490 on eBay. We shit you not. God Help Us All indeed… Sidney, thanks for the line.
