WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD- JOEL FISHER (KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES)

Posted on July 11, 2009

We decided to interup the KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES demoing process (the guys are prepping to head to El Passo to record their second album) and chat to one of our fave Welshmen Joel about what is currently on his iPod. Shuffle setting to on, and here’s what he came back with…

1) Let’s Dance – David Bowie
I’ve been been a David Bowie fan for quite some time, more-so recently on his early recordings from the 60’s in a compilation album, ‘London boy’. The songs are quite dark and often theatrical. I like. But back to the song I’m supposed to be talking about…..i think it was one of his biggest hits, a catchy little number, it deserves its place on my iPod.

2) Oxygen – Bjork
It’s a b-side that I didn’t know was on my iPod, and I’ve never heard it before! But i love Bjork. I’m big into anything with huge sound-scapes and atmospheric sounding stuff. Nobody quite does that like Bjork. She’s got it all; the hits and the obscurities. I could drift to sleep listening to Bjork every night for the rest of my life and never be dissapointed. Beautiful voice, beautiful music.

3) I Cant Dance – Genesis
Ahh, this song has been in my life since i can remember. My dad used to play it a lot while i was little and i used to dance and sing along. Im more a fan of Phil Collins solo career than Genesis, with ‘In The Air Tonight’ being my favorite.

4) Just Dance – Lady Gaga
There seems to be some recurring theme with my iPod and its shuffle function. 4 songs in, and 3 are about dancing. And i cant even dance! Anyway. I love Lady Gaga, she’s amazing. I saw her perform at Glastonbury, well on tv at Glastonbury, and she blew me away. She put on an amazing show, and her songs are killer. The thing that stands out the most to me, is how much of a performer and entertainer she is- something a lot more bands / singers should do. It definitely makes them stand out from the crowd.

5) This Year’s Girl – Elvis Costello
Not my favorite Costello track but still a good one. I’m all about the album ‘My Aim Is True’. Just such an amazing voice, and has wrote a countless number of well crafted songs. I’m actually thinking of getting ‘my aim is true’ tattooed at some point, somewhere, from the song ‘Alison’. Its up there as one of my favorite songs.
