Obituary’s Return

Posted on February 12, 2008

The last 2 nights have marked Obituary’s first UK shows since ‘World Demise’ was released and toured… which means we’re talking around 1995. That was a long fuckin’ time ago. With just 2 UK shows to mark their reunion, we hope you managed to make one. First show, Bradford Rios 2 nights ago. Second, London’s Electric Ballroom, just last night. So, what’s changed? Can they still cut it? Does John Tardy still have vocals from the bowels of Hell? HELL YES! Obituary delivered an amazingly tight set… our highlights being ‘Kill For Me’, ‘Slowly We Rot’, and ‘Final Thoughts’. What did you think? E-mail us! The Electric Ballroom looked sold out and we reckon people had travelled from all over the UK to be there… we learnt of one chap who spent 7 hours on a coach from Cornwall to see them! Still, a 7 hour trip is mere drop in the bucket if you’ve been waiting nearly 10 years… A few choice comments from this office: “John Tardy still has vocals from the bowels of Hell, and his hair was even longer than I remember (and is almost a stageshow on it’s own).” “Frank Watkins í¢ä‰åäóì his nonchalant attitude on stage reminds me of Nicky Wire of the Manics (believe it or not). Still reckon he should be in a Hardcore band though.” “Trevor Peres (a.k.a. The Skull) í¢ä‰åäóì almost as much hair as John. Totally Metal. Flicked more Devil Horns than Ronnie Dio. Riff-meister.” “Donald Tardy í¢ä‰åäóì the í¢ä‰åñanchorí¢ä‰åŒ of the Obie-sound. Seemed to enjoy it the most, but then you would if your last gig was with Andrew WK.” “Amazed they didn’t play ‘Don’t Care’.” Judging how drunk a large proportion of the crowd were, we’d say you all had a damn fine time! We certainly did… Live photos now up in the Obituary PHOTO GALLERY… somewhere under all that hair, there are faces, honest (we’re talking band, and front row of the pit). new Obituary album coming next year…
