Roadrunner Records are pleased to release Old Crows/Young Cardinals, the fourth full-length disc from the Juno-award winning ALEXISONFIRE (pronounced ‘Alexis-on-fire’).
The St. Catharines, Ontario-based quintet have set a June 22 launch for the highly anticipated follow-up to the band’s Platinum-selling album Crisis which debuted at #1 on the Top 200 Soundscan Chart in Canada.
Consisting of five friends - George Pettit (vocals), Wade MacNeil (guitar/vocals), Chris Steele (bass), Dallas Green (guitar/vocals), and Jordan Hastings (drums) - Alexisonfire formed in late 2001 as the result of a three-band break up. The band’s name is a sort-of homage to an adult entertainer named Alexis Fire, who claimed to be the world’s only lactating contortionist stripper. Their music is characterized by turbulent and explosive dynamics with intricate guitar melodies. Much of the new album was written at home, following a long stint on the road. George Pettit said then saying he was unaware of the direction that the band would head in, but that "the next record, I think, is us pretty much wanting to put the knife in screamo. I don't want to be the band that saves it, I want to be the band that kills it. I'm going to try and take us into some new, weird territories.”
Old Crows/Young Cardinals was recorded in February 2009 at Armoury Studios (Vancouver, BC) and Silo Recordings (Hamilton, ON) and is co-produced by Alexisonfire alongside Julius “Juice” Butty (who produced previous albums Watch Out! and Crisis). The legendary Nick Blagona also engineered the album at the Armoury Studio sessions. Now, George has this to say about the new opus, “Old Crows/Young Cardinals was built on the foundation of Crisis. Musically it moves at a feverish pace. The lyrics span a wide range of topics, from metaphysical rebellion, to living as a nomad. It is the culmination of the history of our band. Personally, I feel it is our best record yet, but you get to be the judge of that…”
