SATYRICON’s progressive and creative outlook has enabled the band’s backbone of Frost (drums) and Satyr (vocals, guitars & everything else) to push the boundaries of the black metal genre, setting a new standard and developing the field beyond its traditional parameters. As a result, SATYRICON are now one of the most highly regarded and influential bands in black metal, with each of their albums standing out as a ground-breaking landmark in extreme music. Their previous album, the critically acclaimed ‘Volcano’ (2002), received the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album" and debuted at #2 in the Norwegian National Music Chart.
Inspired by the occult traditions of our cultural history, particularly the strict symbolic systems devised by secret lodges and societies, SATYRICON have created eight songs that radically break all the rules of metal music. However, the notable thing about ‘Now, Diabolical’ is that the artistic parameters the band set upon themselves are very similar to those that apply to generic rock music; a catchy hook, a certain bpm, etc.. The result is startling. Never before has black metal shown such drive.
Produced by Satyr himself, ‘Now, Diabolical’ was recorded in various Norwegian studios and at the famous Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, Canada, where it was mixed with the legendary Mike Frasier (Metallica, AC/DC). Speaking from Vancouver, Satyr stated, "This project has been a deeper dive in the abyss than ever before and many sacrifices have been made to try to achieve what we where looking for. We are very proud of ‘Now, Diabolical’ and hope the pain of giving birth to this phoenix will prove its worth!”
