Since their inception in 1992, MACHINE HEAD have been about creating the most honest and intense music possible. Their debut album, ‘Burn My Eyes’ became an instant classic, melding monster riffs and Robert Flynn’s aggressive vocal style with the powerful rhythmic grooves that became synomymous with their name. 2003 saw their most uncompromising release since that debut, ‘Through The Ashes Of Empires’ released to unanimous critical acclaim. Metal Hammer proclaimed the release ‘Album of the Year’ in their annual poll. Two huge sold-out UK tours followed (including the aforementioned Brixton Academy show) as well as a triumphant ‘Main Stage’ appearance at the Download Festival in 2004 that also saw them voted ‘Band of the Weekend’ on the festival website.
It has always been on stage where Machine Head shine brightest and ‘Elegies’ perfectly captures the sonic & visual majesty of one of Metal’s very best live acts. Recorded in December 2004, in front of a jam-packed 4000-capacity Brixton Academy, the main body of the DVD is a classic 80 minute “greatest hits and more” performance covering the band’s 10-year career to date. Also featured is an exclusive ‘Making of the Album’ section covering their ‘Through The Ashes Of Empires’ period, including band interviews, clips of the band recording ‘Season’s Wither’ (their most recent studio track), the band’s ‘record release party’ in San Francisco and the mayhem of their ‘Machine Head karaoke’ contest, plus lots more. Bonus features include extensive behind-the-scenes footage, an ‘on the road’ section and the promo videos for ‘Imperium’, ‘Days Turn Blue To Grey’ and ‘The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears’, and ‘Making of..’ documentaries for each. Packed to the rafters with cool stuff, this release is a must for all Machine Head fans.
