DOUG STANHOPE'S ST ALBARNS SHOW RECEIVES A GLOWING 4 STAR REVIEW IN THE TIMES...
Posted on April 2, 2012DOUG STANHOPE has received a 4 star review in The Times for his recent show in St Albarns. See below to read the glowing review of Doug's 'magnificent fantasy' and 'self-loathing', courtesy of The Times', Clive Davis:
★★★★ "His shows may not be for the faint-hearted; he throws the C word around with abandon and shows more of his psychic scars than is healthy for any of us. But it is hard to think of any stand-up who addresses his own inadequacies with such unblinking honesty. There is nothing glib about him. Is he a misogynist? He certainly teeters on the edge, but his whole act is fuelled by such self-loathing that you sense it is mankind in general that is his real target. His stream-of-consciousness rants reached their climax in a magnificent fantasy which mixed the rituals of American football with confessions of latent homosexuality. Like the rest of the evening, it was exhausting and exhilarating. Add the cheerfully understated songs of his American support act, Henry Phillips, and the result was nothing less than inspirational." - Clive Davis, The Times
